Study suggests new way to inhibit oncogenes

    Yes, shocking, isn't it?!!! The integrative oncologist I got the article from, Brian Lawenda, also made this thought-provoking observation...

    "Chemotherapy drug resistance genes are activated by a commonly administered steroid, dexamethasone. This steroid is a synthetic drug in the same category as the stress hormone, cortisol. The investigators suggest that oncologists need to study alternative anti-inflammatory drugs instead of dexamethasone to reduce this risk of chemotherapy resistance. As an integrative oncologist, I'll take this one step further and recommend that we also focus more attention on counseling our patients on the importance of stress reduction as a means to reduce our body's production of cortisol." (Brian Lawenda, MD)

    Of course, it's pretty hard to separate stress from a bc dx, but certainly food for thought!
