Good evening all,I am 41 yrs old I was diagnosed with ILC two weeks ago tomorrow I am having my right breast and nodes removed. Everything is moving so fast that at the last minute I am doubting my preparedness that in twelve hours i will have one breast. I am not the glamorous type I love my tracksuits and baggy jumpers, i have 5 children with no plans for more in the future, but still it is such a part of the feminine side of me I am wondering what my reactions and emotions are going to be when the reality finally sets in!!!! Tips for coping anyone.

Hi Mel. Are you having any type of reconstruction? Your feelings are very normal. Our breasts mean many things to us. They are nurturing, they are sexual and they are a body part! To have one removed is no small thing. However you will adjust in time. The priority is getting the cancer out and doing whatever you can to reduce your chance of recurrence. Having said that I think there is a grieving process for the body part you are losing. It will get better, I promise. Good luck.

Very well said, dtad. We agree, it is very normal how you are feeling. Please keep us posted on how you are doing, and know that we all understand. Sorry you have joined the "club" but we do welcome you here.

I was diagnosed with IBC about 3 weeks ago. I am having chemo before the surgery, but I totally know how you feel. It has all happened so fast that I am feeling like reality hasn't set in yet.

    Hi TammieV-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for the circumstances that have brought you here, but we're glad you've joined us, and hope you find the support you need!

You may want to spend some time reading through our IBC forum. There's lots of great info there, and it will give you a chance to connect with other members who have battled, or are currently fighting, IBC.
