Hi girls,

Even typing this I'm thinking I'm tempting fate! :( I thought I was coping fairly well and didn't want to be a 'drama queen' but to avoid the dreaded google doctor, I think this is my best way to help me at the min.

I'm British but have been living in Malta for 16 years (excellent NHS system here and the hospital is super). I went for my annual smear test 5 weeks ago and my gyne checked my breasts as usual. She said that given my age (42) and that there's no family history etc I should be fine but she found a 'mass' in my left breast (I've never felt it nor has my husband we do check). She said it's very likely just glandular but if I could wait the Radiologist would be in soon so maybe an idea to get it checked out. To cut a very long story short, I had the mammogram and it did indeed show a mass, so he did an ultrasound too (he said he's not overly worried). I then was referred to the hospital where the surgeon agreed very likely just glandular (letter says 'scattered fibroglandular density (25%-50% glandular) no signs of neoplasia and BI-RADS-2 - benign findings). I then had a few more images done with mammogram and then another ultrasound (couldn't be found on ultrasound). Doctor said very likely only glandular but given they hadn't any images to refer to from previous mamograms or ulstraounds, she would liek to do a biopsy (stereo I tgink they called it). Had that done and now waiting results.

I'm driving myself mental!

Any words of wisdom for me??

Hi lislougfras, welcome to this wonderful community! So sorry you find yourself in this situation, but this is a great place to come while you wait. Try not to worry too much about it. There are many other benign masses that can be found, as you can read in the page:

What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas

Hope this helps a bit. Let us know about the biopsy, good luck!

    Hi Lis:

Bi-rads 2 is good. I guess the lack of baseline for comparison led to the recommendation of stereotactic core needle biopsy. Waiting for the results is stressful, but many biopsies do turn out to be benign.

Hoping for benign results for you!
