Finally got to see a plastic surgeon. Wanted flap reconstruction but he said because of my blood clotting disorder that would certainly cause complications so it's expanders and implants. Could I ask you ladies some questions? The doctor seems very competent and knowledgeable but I've always felt the best advice comes from those who have "been there, done that".

First, I am currently 40DD and want to be reduced to 36C. This would look much better with my height and build. However, the PS said a larger breast would be an advantage if I ever need more surgery. I DO worry a lot about recurrence and spreading. Should I go bigger than 36C? I really don't want to. BTW, I'm going to wait six months to a year for reconstruction.

Expanders: The doctor showed me one. It was heavy and felt rough. Are they uncomfortable, can you feel the roughness under the skin?Do they temporarily take the place of an implant or will I need to wear a pocketed bra with padding?

Implants: He showed me a silicone implant and the thing weighed a ton! Can you feel this heaviness after it's implanted or does it have the weight of a natural breast? I'm leaning towards saline though, it seems like it would feel more natural and be safer in case of rupture. Is one better than the other?

Allergies: Do any of these products cause allergic reactions? Is here any way to tell in advance?

Cost is no problem here -- my insurance is finally paying for something!

Thanks for any advice.

Well you have a lot of questions, but they are important. I wish I knew what to ask in the beginning. I am 5'1" and my implants are silicone and at 550 and yes they do feel heavy. Expanders just felt more awkward and ill fitting. Yes, most people feel they were a bit uncomfortable .Don't focus on the size but rather what will look appropriate on you. You are smart to look here for advice and be an advocate for yourself in your plastic surgeon's office.
