Cold Cap advice for a newbie..

Hello ladies,

I have 8 rounds of chemo scheduled in 2 weeks and I have been researching and reading the threads all about the cold caps and I had a few questions. I am terrified to lose my hair like many of you, and I want to get a deep understanding of the process involved to see if this is something I could realistically do.

I live in the Northwest and the hospitals out here do not offer any assistance with the cold caps, so for those of you who don't live in areas that have facilities that encourage/offer assistance (freezers), how did it go? How difficult was it?

How often did you have to change the cap?

What size cooler did you use?

How heavy was it?

How did you carry it inside the hospital/car?

Is it something one person can help you with? Or do you need multiple?

How much was it?

Is there a certain "amount" of caps that each of us needs due to treatment regimen?

I saw on the thread that there are a few different brands of the caps, are any better than the other?

They both work but the Elastogel caps require additional bags of dry ice on the inside of cap. They also warm faster so should be changed a bit sooner.

Thank you everyone for the responses and resources! I have decided to go ahead with the penguin cold caps and I am hoping for the best. Regardless if I lose my hair or not, I am still going to fight to the bitter end with cancer and will never give up!
