Surprising early side effect
Hi all ~. I have completed now just two of my 30 treatments of radiation for my DCIS and did not have any side effects the first day. The second day however about an hour after treatment my face felt tight like I was in the sun too long and had sunburn however was not red. My neck was slightly pink but not actually my breast area. It felt really good to have the air in the car blowing on my face. It only lasted a couple of hours but was just surprised that any side effect I would have would be on my face. Anyone experience that?
I am having five weeks of radiation on the full breast with the last week being a targeted boost

Gratefulinmn, I would describe this to your RO or radiation nurse before your next treatment. I am curious to hear what they say.
I did not experience this, but I had a different weird episode right at the beginning of my radiation course too. My non-radiated breast started to get slightly pink after about 2 or 3 treatment. Turned out to be beginning of some infection that was quickly stopped by oral antibiotics.

I am suppose to visit with him on Monday after my session. I will tell him then and see what he says. Thanks

I had my first today. I'm really dreading this because part of my heart is exposed and I'm really worried about that. I found an article on line explaining that if the radiation is done in conjuction with the woman taking deep breaths, the heart can be spared. I'm worried about long-term effects as it can result in hardening of of the arteries.
About afterward, I have this weird, tingly feeling in the my tongue, especially the tip. I also have the same tingly sensation in my breast. I'm hyper aware of my boob as though its glowing. I'm to receive 20 treatments. 19 more to go.

Hi Meh527 ~. My RO uses the breath hold technique for my rads. They even have a machine that can detect whether or not I am still holding my breath. If I breath too soon the machine stops delivering the rads and they will finish as soon as I am ready. It can even tell if I am holding my breath too much or not enough. I was given the option to go to another center for my rads that is slightly closer but they did not have that machine so I chose to go a little further out. I would discuss that method with them if they are not using it. Heart disease is a bigger issue in my family so I too am concerned about damage to my heart.
I went in for my third session today and did not have that same side effect I had the second time so I am sure mine was a fluke. But if it happens again my RO said to let him know.
Good luck to you
