Spammer warning

Earlier this week I joined and posted for the first time. A few minutes later I received a private message from someone on this board claiming to be from a third world county and needing my help in laundering money. I reported it. What can be done to weed out these people before they prey on us or use our posted information for their own purposes.

Honestly. Unreal. So sorry you had to receive that CabbageRose. I haven't received any suspect PMs but I have reported some weird posts that just didn't make sense and had links to a list of youtube videos of pirated TV shows. The Mods took the accounts down. Please do not let this discourage you from joining us here. I joined in March and found such a supportive and loving community, always ready to help with factual information, lots of experience, and patience, humour, and hugs during the low times. It does make sense though to play it safe with protecting privacy so I do not release any personal information that could lead to identity theft or the like. It's sad but I guess there are lurkers everywhere with not so good intentions. The Mods are monitoring though 24hrs/day... thinking it's just the PMs that can get by them, so you did right to report it.

We're so sorry for your experience! Unfortunately, while we do try to remove spammers before they can even post or send a PM, there are times that of course we can't be as diligent as we wish to be. We do have a system in place to catch spammers as soon as they join, and most are removed immediately. Again, some slip by though. You did right to report the spammer and they have been removed from the site. Please continue to let us know either by reporting, or by sending us a private message, if you ever have any similar issues. We're always here to help!
