Hello Everyone

I am new here but not new to the breast cancer world. Both of my sister in laws have had it . I had recently started noticing pain in my left side of breast so I went to my GP she sent me for momogram and ultrasound ...results were mildly complicated cyst bilaterally I have alwasy had cyst issues even in my overies so always getting checked out but this one is nagging me she told me that it is to small to biopsy but she will send me to breast specialist because it is hurting me and it shouldnt be if it is that small (size 7 mm ) but then again I know ppl who have had the same diagnoses and it ended up being cancer down the road.

My question is- should I insist on having this monitored and should I settle if the breast specialist says it is not cancer ...the only other way to see it I guess is MRI ...not sure ...just want to make sure if I do have it (and I know I am getting ahead of myself) that I catch it as early as possible.

Any suggestions .

I would do (and believe) what a breast specialist told me. I wouldn't insist on anything a specialist did not feel was warranted.

If it is truly bothering you (physically and mentally) I see no reason not to get a second opinion. Nobody is perfect and doctors are not infallible.

Hi Sam, Just wanted to let you know that I had a biopsy on a 7mm "thing" in my breast. Thankfully turned out to be nothing. But is apparently is possible to biopsy. Good luck.

    Hi Sam,

I am experiencing something similar--I have been having sharp and stinging pain in left breast, armpit and collarbone for several months now. I had an ultrasound in June that showed a milldly complicated 6mm cyst (some internal echoes). Ultrasound was repeated with mammo because my OB-GYN felt thickening in the left breast. Mammo was clear except for benign calcifications and ultrasound still showed cyst. She referred me to a breast surgeon to ease my mind. He examined me, viewed my scans, and has put me on 6 month monitoring because he wants to see if the cyst changes so I go back in February for ultrasound. Sorry that was long-winded--just wanted to give you background. Anyway, I would say go to the breast surgeon, hear what he/she has to say. I wouldn't settle for less than some additional monitoring--an ultrasound in a few months at least--unless you feel comfortable what what the doctor says. If the symptoms persist then SOMETHING is going on and it is unlikely to be cancer but it's still important to find out what's happening. Is the cyst palpable? Mine isn't so the surgeon isn't convinced it is the cause of my pain and recommended things like a change of bra and vitamin E. I don't wear an underwire so I don't think that is it. What kind of pain are you having? It could always be hormonal as well. Increased estrogen levels can cause breast and ovarian cysts--I have both as well.

I hope you feel better and get some answers!
