6 Years Out!

Hi girls (and any guys lurking )!

6 years ago this week I got that devastating news none of us ever wanted to hear. So many emotions throughout this journey, and I never expected to see this day. So that my new friends here are your daily words of encouragement. It's been a tough road, but I will say that there are many days I don't even think about having breast cancer, which for at least the first year and half at least, would have been impossible for me. I even have "forgotten" the actual date of my dx and surgery (early November). Obviously some days are better than others, and I still have difficulty navigating when I get a new ache or pain, is it just normal aging, or is "it" back. But I will say I don't jump in to full blown panic mode immediately any longer (still get there time to time ).

And once again, I have to thank BCO and all the people I've met here along the way who've helped me retain some of my sanity along this road. If there's one positive thing out of all this is that I've met some of the most AMAZING, wonderful people along the way. That is truly a blessing.

Congratulations, Sharon!  That is awesome!  I hit the 5-year milestone at the beginning of this month and I agree with everything you said in your post.  While I never forget I had breast cancer, it's not in the forefront of my mind every day.  I love to make travel plans and don't even think twice when something is months, or even a year, in the future.  In fact, my 30th wedding anniversary is in June and my DH and I are planning a return trip to Bora Bora to celebrate!  We went for our 20th and planned to go back for our 25th, but I happened to be in the fight of my life then. 

Hugs to all the newly diagnosed, it will get better!

in 2010 my wife was is bad condition, we looked for help...in 2009 she found the problem but not told this to anyone, only in 2010 we went to doctors, who told at the beggining hat its nothing and no need to worry...around middle 2010 she started the treatment (neoadvejent) , AC4 and after taxol hereceptin, 5 months after she made surgery, 15 of 20 lymps were touched..we were concerned, its was HER2+ (triple positive). i was shocked from all the story.  this forum after i found and i seen other positive survive cases, it saved me...now 2015 - everything is ok. so always there is a hope. and believe it will be ok for more years many years. and i hope it will give strength to others.

A big help she also received because she is doing self cultivation of mind and body and she has decided, after what happened, to open a new page of her life.

Hello All 6+'ers !

We are interested in hearing your experiences on issues related to your diagnosis and/or treatment,such as sexual matters, weight gain/loss, chemo brain/chemo fog, bone and heart health, exercise and nutrition issues, menopausal concerns, lymphedema, infertility, neuropathy, joint pain, skin/hair changes, relationship changes, work and career hurdles, and emotional issues including fear of recurrence. Please don't feel that you need to address each of these issues. We are listing these as suggestions. Your stories will complement a new, upcoming section on the main Breastcancer.org site on Survivorship issues.

Some things to think about for your story: Have you gained a new perspective on this other side of treatment? What life lessons have you learned? What advice would you give your newly-diagnosed self or other person just starting the journey? How does your "old" self compare to your "new" self? Is there a difference? What impact has your breast cancer diagnosis made on your life? If you've become a Breast Cancer Advocate, what is your mission and how are you fulfilling it?

If you're willing to share your perspective of your life after diagnosis and treatment, or your life on active, maintenance or on-going treatment we'd love to hear from you! Please send your story via PM to the Mods along with a picture of yourself or something that represents you, and a note about how long since you've been diagnosed. Seeing these stories will surely inspire our new members, along with members just going through treatment now, to see that you CAN get through active treatment and get to a new normal on the other side, even if that includes maintenance or ongoing, lifelong treatment.

Your story will be included with the other Members Stories photos on the main site (http://www.breastcancer.org/community/acknowledgin...), in our December Newsletter and may also be used in part throughout the website and/or in fundraising or event materials.
