Which doctor do I call????

Options

This December will be my 3 year anniversary.

I have a large, swollen node on the very inner inside of my right thigh. I also noticed an smaller enlarged node in my neck above my right collarbone. Lastly, there is a collection of nodes just below my collarbone almost by my shoulder that are swollen.

The one on my inner thigh is by far the largest.

So, who do I call?? My BS isn't going to want to see my groin, but the other 2 seem to be his area. Seems dumb to make two separate appointments.

Any guidance would be helpful.

Thanks for the response. I didn't have an Oncologist, just a Breast Specialist.

I would start with your Breast Specialist. He'll be well versed in swollen nodes, no matter where they are, and he can determine if a referral to an oncologist is the next best step.

Good luck, and keep us posted. Deanna

If you do not have a medical oncologist, then call your surgeon. I am surprised they never sent you to a medical oncologist; especially since you were HER2+!!!! I hope all turns out ok. I am in Ankeny, Shane Oak. If you need the name of a good Medical Oncologist, PM me; mine is awesome!!!

    Hi ShaneOak:

Regarding HER2, I would just note that with pure DCIS, HER2-positivity would not lead to a referral to a medical oncologist even today. With respect to pure DCIS, the National Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCCN) breast cancer guidelines (version 3_2015) state:

"Although HER2 status is of prognostic significance in invasive cancer, its importance in DCIS has not been elucidated. To date, studies have either found unclear or weak evidence of HER2 status as a prognostic indicator in DCIS. The NCCN Panel concluded that knowing the HER2 status of DCIS does not alter the management strategy and routinely should not be determined."

    Best,

Thank you both for the responses. KBeee, I should clarify that I was referred and evaluated by an Oncologist, but didn't require any further treatment beyond the BMX.

I DID call my BS and I see him on Tuesday to have them looked at. Nurse thought it sounded like the thigh one could be a cyst. But of course my mind go to cancer now every time.

So nice to hear from someone so close to me!
