What to think when you don't get any answers

Hello,

I am 35 with no children and felt a hard lump in my right breast about 2 months ago. I thought it was just a lump that would go away but it never did. I went to my doctor that referred me to a breast clinic, I was examined then sent to get a mammogram, straight after the mammogram I was sent for an ultrasound. During the ultrasound they decided they wanted a biopsy as the found another mass in my breast and one in my armpit. Did the biopsy in all 3 areas and they put titanium markers in the areas then I was sent for a second mammogram and then waited for the specialist to see me. When I walked into the office it was the specialist with 2 cancer nurses in there and the specialist said they have concerns. Asking questions if I am sure I have no family history several times and also asking about my future plans on where I want treatment as I am a Swede living in Ireland. They did not give me any other information and I am now waiting on my results, got an appointment for Thursday this week. Has anyone else done all these procedures during one day and not even an indication on what it can be?

Hi Veli, I had a mammo and was called back for an ultrasound the next day. After the ultrasound the radiologist wanted to immediately do a biopsy as he felt it was probably cancer. I refused as my head was spinning and felt I needed to slow things down.

So, it can be done in one day. However, without the results of the biopsy, there is really no info to give you yet. I hope you get good news on Thursday!

Hi there. Sorry you have to be here but I think you will find comfort here. Biopsies take 3-4 days for results. I know how hard the waiting can be :Good luck to you.Keep us posted

I had my ultrasound and mammogram one afternoon and then went in the next morning for the biopsy. We had preliminary results the next afternoon, which surprised me since I thought it would be a few more days. In a week I had the more detailed results.

After the mammogram and ultrasound, I met with the nurse coordinator and the radiologist. The radiologist talked about things that were moderately concerning, but looking back I think he knew it was cancer, but didn't want to freak me out since I was there alone and am only 32. He also referred me to the surgeon that day, so I ended up getting a phone call for a consultation appointment the following week.

Waiting for information is hard.

Hi Veli:

Waiting for results is very hard. Imaging can raise suspicions, but until the biopsy results are in, there is some possibility of a benign condition.

Sometimes, it can be helpful to take someone with you to the appointment to have a second set of ears and another notetaker, assuming they are a calm and organized trusted person. You may also prefer not to take anyone.

The doctor will review the key findings of pathology report with you. However, you can request copies of the radiologist's written reports from all of your recent imaging and a copy of the written pathology report, so you can review these yourself at home and keep them in your files. (Sometimes, they prefer to provide the pathology report after the doctor reviews it with you.)

Hello,

Unfortunately it wasn't good news. They have confirmed cancer (stage 3 I think since I couldn't really take everything in) in my breast and lymph nodes. I will have an MRI on Thursday, surgery in 2 weeks and then radiotherapy for 12 weeks and chemo for a year. I am a little shocked but glad that I have this great team behind me that already know what they want to do and are not wasting any time.

It sounds like you have a great team behind you which will make all the difference and as you've seen here there are many many women here who understand completely how you feel and can help you through treatment and beyond.
