I am a 72 year old woman who has had a double mastectomy ..I had cancer in my right breast and chose to have both breasts removed. I also chose to have implants at the time of surgery and was assured that I would do just fine. Two days the surgery I was discharged. and one day later I was back I the hospital fighting for my life. The implants had to be removed and the frontal tissues which had died due to insufficient blood supply also required surgical removal. A spent an additional week at the hospital and then lived on site in one of the cottages for an additional two weeks so that I could receive additional treatment which involved antibiotics for a non diagnosed infection! I was most unhappy with the lack of pre evaluation that should have taken place. I had two auto immune disorders and this condition according to the breast implant provider should have required further evaluation to determine the safety of implants for my body.. So to women who are contemplating having implants after a mastectomy please be aware of your preexisiting conditions....I trusted that my hospital The City of Hope would have done any and all tests necessary to assure my safety. It does not appear that this took place. I am permanently disfigured and have limited options for the future. Does anyone out there care? .

Ms Dancer - what a horrible experience to endure. Where are you in this process (when did you have surgery) and are you staying with your doctors?

I wish you the best - Patty

What a shocking experience, especially at City Of Hope! I'm so sorry this happened to you, but very glad you survived the ordeal.

I was treated at UCLA and truly believe the PSs there are miracle workers. Happy to share names and contact info if and when you feel up to pursuing a 2nd opinion re. the possibility of future surgery to improve your current outcome. (((Hugs))) Deanna
