Lumpectomy

I had a lumpectomy yesterday at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. My surgeon was Dr. Claire Holloway. My lump was 1cm and they could only see this in the MRI with contrast but used the images and located it with wire and removed the lump and a margin around down to the muscle wall.

I can't say enough about Dr. Holloway and her team. I had questions and concerns prior to surgery and Sunnybrook made me an appointment the following day after I called with my concerns. One of the Fellows that works with Dr.Holloway saw me at the clinic and answered all of my questions. She made me feel at ease and I felt ready for surgery.

Just before the surgery the anesthesiologist asked me the normal questions and joked with me. The others in the surgical room introduced themselves to me and made me feel very comfortable.

I feel good today and from what I can see there will only be some small scars from the incisions and not much change at all in the appearance of my breast. I may have to go back for another surgery if the margins aren't clear but that's just fine. I'm happy to have been a patient for a wonderful group of doctors at Sunnybrook.

I got similar case like you, I wonder why need cut a margin around to the chest wall not 1 cm

I am pretty confuse so far by the Fellows explanation .
