Ice packs?

I thought we weren't supposed to use them but my RO told me today to use them on my under breast area which is raw and painful. Obviously if he says it's ok, it's ok, but it seems different from what I read. Today was my last day and I am very very raw and sore. And he tells me it will get worse next week.
