Acceptable Margin Limits

Options

I was looking over my pathology reports and finally after four years noticed my margin amounts after my BMX with no reconstruction for DCIS in 2011.

I don't have an onocologist and my breast surgeon moved away somewhere years ago.

What do you all know what is an acceptable limit for margins after a BMX?

I am just curious what others have been told.

    Hi Cinnamonsmiles,

There is a very good article about margins on this website: Margins

My closest margins were 2mm and that was deemed fine.

    Hi Cinnamonsmiles

My closest margins were 7mm and my surgeon seemed happy with that but I know of people whose margins were less than that and are doing fine.

My doctor told me that as long as the tumor was not touching the margin it was considered clean by the current breast surgery protocol. I am just recently diagnosed and have not had surgery yet. What do others think?

Mine was less than 1mm and since I was having my radiation in a clinical trial (partial breast, 2x a day for 5 days with gold seeds implanted) the RO wanted larger margins so had mine shaved (was not happy about a second surgery but whatever) all around so now all over 1cm. BUT, I have read as the person above Tallnterrific that any negative margin is acceptable.
