Does bc cause kidney disease?

Options

I have type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease so my doctor tests me every year. Last year I had normal kidney function. This year I fell to Stage III kidney disease. Next stop, dialysis. The doctor said this was a huge drop for such a short period of time and restested me but the result was the same. Can bc do this? If I get treatment could I regain normal kidney function?

If the test you are reffering to is EGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) then it's calculated using your age and weight. Your age has obviously changed but did your weight change? When I get the EGFR tests before surgery they always have a cop out attached "result within the normal range is not a guarantee of normal renal function" (or something like that). That leads me to believe there are more accurate ways to assess renal function. Have you had any other tests?

I was not aware of any connection between BC and kidney disease other than kidney metastases.

I hope your condition is not severe enough to warrant dialysis and that there are other ways to control it.

EbonyEyes--I do not see if you have had chemo for your cancer. My personal experience is this. I have type I diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease before breast cancer. They gave me one chemo treatment, of a greatly reduced drug cocktail to be on the safe side. I ended up in ER with neutropenia and infection and now my kidney function is very low. My nephrologist is hopeful it will get at least a little better, and it has improved slightly in the past two weeks. He said this quick drop is likely an acute kidney failure/injury, not chronic, which is what I had before. However, I am still way worse than before I had the chemo. I don't think it was the cancer that made kidneys worse, but the chemo and infection. I may not be able to continue with chemo. Tough choices. Good luck to you.
