Hello all, I have stage one 1cm invasive and DCIS with no node involvement. ER + and PR- and HERS-... My oncotype score is right in the middle of the intermediate area. My oncologist is leaving the decision to me as to whether to have chem...4 treatments every three weeks or go straight to radiation and oral therapy. Any thoughts???

Grammy4, have you considered asking for the Mammaprint? Just an idea...

I will investigate a mamoprint and bring it up at my second opinion appointment this week, Thanks. May I ask what is your treatment plan? Was it based on a score?

I have nearly the same stats as you and decided to do chemo, except my Onco score was 20 and I'm PR+. What was your ki67? Any lymphovascular invasion on the path report? PR- tends to be less responsive to hormonal therapy so I'd definitely consider chemo

If you can get the symphony suite, it wasn't available until recently.

I will see if I can find the link.

Hi Grammy, I am in the same decision making process that you are. My age is 69. I have IDC and my oncotype score is 33. My MO recommends chemo. I see him again next Friday for further discussion on chemo types.

My tumor was 11mm, Grade 1a, ER+, clear margins at lumpectomy, no lymphnode involvment, Because of my age, I am thinking of skipping chemo and just doing radiation and hormone therapy.

I have trouble picking a paint color for my bedroom, so this is a monumental decision. Any advice?

Does age have an influence on whether or not to have chemo? My age is 69. I have IDC and my oncotype score is 33. My MO recommends chemo. I see him again next Friday for further discussion on chemo types.

I don't see surgery listed for some of you ladies so how did you get your onco scores? My onco said she would do that with a blood test AFTER my surgery so I thought you have to do surgery first.

    Hi Sunset-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry you find yourself here, but we hope you find the advice and support you're looking for!

That sounds like a very difficult decision indeed. Have you asked your MO why he is recommending chemo? Or discussed with him your hesitation, and asked if there were other options available to you? Your case sounds borderline, and could probably go either way, so it really is entirely up to you. We would suggest talking with your doctor about his reasons for wanting you to do chemo, and then go from there. Maybe once you hear it laid out, it might change your mind or influence your decision one way or another.

Please keep us posted on what you decide to do, we'll be thinking of you!

Ebony, sometimes people don't update their profiles, so they may have already had surgery, but have not listed it.

In my case, the Oncotype testing was done using tissue from my needle biopsy, so I did know prior to lumpectomy surgery that I would not be having chemo. This is not a blood test, but a test done using tissue from the cancerous tumor. I also had a genetic profile done prior to surgery due to family history, as the results helped determine what type of surgery I had. If I'd tested BRCA+ my surgeon was recommending a DMX- I did not, so a lumpectomy it was.

I was very happy to have so much info prior to surgery, but not all breast centers/doctors seem to do it in this order.
