Is a mastectomy really necessary?

Biopsy showed three areas of cancer in my right breast: one IDC NOS/DCIS, 0.3cm. The other two are DCIS solid papillary type. All are classified as grade1. According to a booklet the onco gave me, solid papillary tumors are not invasive and are very slow growing. So why can't they just do a lumpectomy followed by radiation? I have so many other serious health problems risk of complications is high for me and I would like to have the least invasive treatment possible.

I suspect they can't do a lumpectomy because of the three areas of cancer and DCIS. There would not be much breast left after 3 lumpectomies. Mastectomy is not all that bad and you will most likely avoid radiation - which might be a plus considering your other health issues.

I had mastectomies. It's easy to find a comfortable prosthesis when the area is flat. The fitter said it's often difficult to get a symmetrical fit when you have an extensive lumpectomy.
