Mets to Ribs?

Options

I have been having pain in my right rib since August 16. I did not injure it in any way that I can recall. Rib x-Ray says no fracture but questionable osteolytic lesions. Bone Scan says no fracture but possible sclerotic changes. CT scan says no fracture and suspicious for mets. Docs all tell me that a solitary mets is quite unusual! Isn't it possible that the reason there is only one spot is because I felt the pain and got it checked out right away? Had a biopsy of my rib yesterday and now I am waiting, which I really hate. I would really love to hear your thoughts and experiences!!

No experience to share. I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are experiencing this terrible uncertainty. Waiting is the hardest part. I sincerely hope the biopsy shows that this is not mets. It sounds like your doctors are thinking it's not. I hope they're right. Surely someone who knows more than I do will be by soon. Good luck.

Waiting is always so frustrating. Sorry I don't have any similar experience with bone pain but see from your history that you have gone through lots of treatment over the years. That proves you're pretty tough (how much did that rib biopsy hurt?) and, even if the worst case scenario is confirmed, you'll do what needs to be done and take it from there!

Hopefully it's not mbc, but while a single met may not be a common finding, it's not as rare as your docs seem to think it is. There are quite a few women on BCO with that scenario, and the good news is many of them are NED after tx. And yes, I think your thoughts about it are very logical and plausible. Hugs & prayers that it turns out not to be a met after all. But know that if it is, you will be in the most desireable situation as mets go, with a spot that can possibly be totally eradicated with a few RT zaps. Deanna

I hope it is not met but if it is look up oligometastatic disease as the information is very hopeful. Oligometastatic is medical jargon for minimal mets. (typically 5 or less, involving one organ).

Thank you all for your kind words and helpful information! My doc called today to say that results of my biopsy were inconclusive! Unfortunately, because of having radiation twice I cannot have a more invasive biopsy done because of uncertain healing. So now I am waiting again!!!!! He suggested that I wait for 3-4 months and see how things are then. Crazy!!! Thanks again Ladies!

Jm, if it helps, I hear (read) a lot from women here who have unexplained rib pain. I hope yours turns out to be benign.

Just wondering how you are getting on. I have had pain in my ribs on the left side for nearly a year. I saw my GP in November last year and was told it was musculoskeletal or wind! I have been studying full time this year and put off returning to docs when discomfort remained. It has recently intensified to a constant burning' dragging ache and is very tender to touch. The sore area is growing also. I have had a chest X-ray and awaiting two week appt with breast clinic for ultrasound as tender in breast tissue near axilla! I am so scared as I had forgotten (almost) about this disease and I don't know if I'm strong enough to deal with a recurrence. Anyway please keep us posted as to how you are. Sending hugs
