As a husband of someone who had breast cancer, I understand that my perspective is different than the people who are dealing directly with the disease. With that said, YES... there is hope... and YES, it does get better. From the outset, my wife kept very busy and avoided Dr. Google. She did her best to assemble the best team she could---and listened to them and did what they said and she kicked the stupid effing cancer as hard as she could. Slowly, over time, life got back on track. I'd say that it was amazing how well 'back on track' we were even 1 year out. The absolute all-consuming nature of cancer from an emotional and psychological standpoint lessened with frequency and intensity with the passage of time----with the full understanding that there could be a recurrence or a new cancer----or something completely unrelated to cancer that could spoil our plans of living to 99. My wife is more active now. She deals with some lymph edema issues but is pretty much back to being herself. She did a pretty intense treatment regimen and has endured some tense moments waiting for results from tests that all turned out fine. At some point, she just got back to living her life. At one point that seemed impossible. But one day at a time, she left that awful place further in the dust. My dad's cousin had BC 29 years ago. Going strong with a doctorate along the way. And those 29 years started with that first day of moving forward with her life. Best wishes to everyone as they reclaim what stupid cancer tried to take
