Lorazepam for nausea?
hi,
I have no idea where to post this, so I thought I'd try here. I just started radiation and I'm one of the few people to get nausea from it I guess. I'm only on my 3rd treatment (out of 20) and I feel like poop. I told the nurse and she talked to the MD and he rx me lorazepam. I was expecting zofran but honestly don't care as long as it takes this feeling away.
Is lorazepam for nausea? Or does he think I'm crazy and is giving me anti anxiety meds?

My first year on Femera gave me nausea daily. Talked to my MO and he told me to take Gravol suppositories (couldn't keep the Gravol tablets down) . They were a life saver and I still use them occasionally as I still suffer from nausea.

Well, according to wikipedia, in addition to its anti-anxiety properties, Lorazepam does treat nausea and vomiting.
Hopefully it will work for you! Being nauseous through the whole weirdness of radiation would be no fun at all!
Good luck!

Yes, lorazepam (Ativan) can help with nausea. I was given Zofran, Compazine and Ativan for anti-nausea during chemo. Zofran was useless and gave me a headache, Compazine worked great, so I never tried the Ativan - but that was what I was given and it was just for that purpose - I was not instructed to use it for anti-anxiety.

yes it does. I was prescribed lorazepam when I first was diagnosed and my MO said I could use it for nausea too.

I was given Ativan for nausea when I started treatment and then a few years later for anxiety - it works for both.
-
it seems to work well for my nausea. I took some last night and feel so much better today.

It works for me. For mild nausea ginger gravol takes the edge off and doesn't make you drowsy.
-
It definitely works for nausea.

Yes, lorazepam is also used for nausea. Hope it helps.

My doctor also had me take it at night when I was taking the sterioids.

I Was getting it thru my port durin chemo.for nausea and I took pill form as well it worked. I found other meds caused constipation and headaches. Good luck.

thanks so much for the replies. It is helping my nausea. I doubled checked with the nurse today to make sure the dr didn't give it to me because he thought I was crazy lol. She said no, they give it to their chemo patients too. It's an anti nausea drug as well as an anti anxiety drug.
I'm taking it at night and it keeps me nausea free until the next evening.
