Large tumor and lumpectomy?
Hi there, I was advised from the Lumoectomy Lounge that maybe some of you fellow stage 2 ladies could help me, so I'm just going to copy and paste it ☺
Hi, ladies!
I'm currently undergoing chemo (round 6 of 12 taxol thus week! Yay!) and so far have seen significant tumor shrinkage after the AC and rounds of taxol. My tumor was quite large to start with: nearly 8 cm. Now it's down to 3.5. I am hoping for further shrinkage as I continue the taxol. Have any of you been able to have a lumpectomy after neoadjuvant therapy for a tumor of a similar size?
Thanks in advance!

Mine was 4 cm and I had a lumpectomy. I am a little lopsided naked but look fine in all clothes including the right sports bras and swimsuits. I was, and continue to be, thrilled that I had that option!

Hi!
My tumor was over 5 cm, and after chemo all the active cancer was gone, according to an MRI and PET scan. The surgeon took out a golfball-sized lump of tissue situated around the surgical marker. The path report confirmed that all of the active cancer was gone and all that remained was a tiny pocket of DCIS. My boob healed up fine, and doesn't seem that much smaller than its healthy twin.

I am so encouraged to hear this!! Thanks, ladies!

I think you can take the 'helplessly' out of the hoping

My tumour was 3.5 and I had it successfully removed. Now have one slightly smaller breast than the other one, but if I sit a certain way in the nude you wouldn't notice haha!

Hi all--bumping this up. I just had a lumpectomy for lobular. It was expected that the tumor would be about 1 cm. Surgeon excised 3.5 cm and it was all cancer. So they have to go back in. Lobular is bad for this I understand
Tumor is at about 12-1:00. I've opted to re-excision but everyone is warning me I won't like results after raditation. My surgeon says it's not pushing the envelope on lumpectomy tumor size and says that he has plenty of women that are happy with cosmetically not ideal results. Surgeon will put in a collagen coil (?) to help support breast through radiation.
Questioning my decision--anyone else with a tumor that could be 4-5 cm at top of breast just above nipple?

I was originally diagnosed with a 2 cm tumor on ultrasound but when lumpectomy done it turned out to be a 5.5 cm tumor! The size of the actual tumor threw me into stage IIA from stage I and changed the treatment plan from radiation then hormone therapy to chemo, then radiation, then hormone therapy. It was quite a shock at first but it is what it is. I have large breasts so I don't really notice any difference in size and I am thankful that I did have a lumpectomy as the surgery and recovery was not bad at all.

My tumor was 5cm and I had successful lumpectomy, I have chemo next.

My tumor was 4.2 cm (originally diagnosed at 1.2 cm--imagine that!) and I also had a successful surgery and immediate breast lift. After radiation, I will have a reduction and lift in the normal breast but even that isn't necessary as you can't see the difference unless I'm bra-less or naked (which frankly isn't often).
