Bruised ribs from bowling?
HI all. Hope everyone is well. I went bowling the week before the 4th of July, haven't been since probably 12/2010. I am right handed and had my LD flap and mx done on that side. I was using a 8 and 9lb ball and played 5 games. A couple days later my thighs and right side hurt. 1 week later all but my ribs felt better. Now it is about 5 weeks later and my ribs still hurt. IT's not the bone, it does feel more like muscle. I am trying to get a new onc, in AZ ( I just moved here) to get me an xray or CT scan but he keeps saying he needs physical symptoms. Is pain not a physical symptom? That's what I said. Yes it is. So anyway has anyone else been down this road, bowling or something strenuous and had pain later?
I was drinking a couple beers and was starting to throw the balls pretty hard, so maybe I did pull something???

Hope that your're feeling better. If not, good idea to go back and see your physician. Also, if he says he needs physical symptoms to order the scan... then tell him you do.

I think it can take a long time for soft tissue type injuries to feel better. Ask your onc exactly what a physical symptom is, then maybe tell him you have it.

Yes, pain is a physical symptom, but since you are aware the pain started after bowling, he's probably chalking it off to that. If you haven't had blood work since your move to AZ, I would maybe start with that and see if there are any changes that might be concerning to your onc, such as a rise in your CA27-29. Beyond that, maybe give the ribs another couple of weeks to feel better, and if they don't, insist on a CT or MRI for your own peace of mind. An x-ray is pretty worthless for finding bone mets, which, of course, we all hope you don't have.
Since you had recon on that side, it sounds like you may have pulled or even damaged something. I think if it was mets, it would be worsening -- not improving at all -- and I don't think you would describe it as feeling "muscular" as much as aching or burning, especially if you overdo things. Hugs, and keep us posted. Deanna

Thanks all. Yes I did have blood work done last month. Cholesterol was a little high but that's it. This onc did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling either. I don't want to go back to him, I need to find someone else in AZ. He didn't seem to have the best bed side manner. When I told him about my pos. lymph nodes he kinda raised his eyebrows like he was surprised I was still here. UGH!!
