We really need to get the real statistics out to the public that 7 % are initially diagnosed with stage IV Breast cancer and over 30% of the supposively cured early stages 0-3 well develop stage IV that is the awareness that needs to be brought to the public view.   Look on the Stage  IV forum and see for yourself almost all were diagnosed with early stage breast cancer 2yrs, 5yrs,8yrs1 15yrs... after the original diagnoses.   We have to join as one force!!i Every  stage of Breast cancer has to stand up together and demand a true cure.   We want transparency these organizations have to give more money  to the cause not administrative costs!  If we join together as one  we are stronger and our numbers are astronomical   (stage 0-IV) they will have to listen!   We must DEMAND A CURE!!!! How many more lives do we have to lose, How many mothers, fathers, sisters, cousins, daughters, sons, friends, neighbors  and coworkers do we have to watch die!!!  Our voices have to be heard!!! No more pink we all should show up at the pink rallies wearing black to honor all the lives that have been lost and show everyone that this is what cancer truly is not pretty and pink get our message out there let them know we demand a cure!   United we can win a true cure for breast cancer!  44,000 lives are lost every year in the USA. Our voices must be heard!!!

Bobcat, I couldn't agree more. It's chilling to look at some of the signature. lines in the stage IV forum and see how many women started out with an even 'better' diagnosis than I did. I know I could get lucky and never end up there but no way do I think it could never happen to me. I KNOW it could.

I really do not think that the public realizes that "Early Stage Breast Cancer" isn't necessarily static and that when it recurs it's frequently/likely metastatic.

Pink has not served our purposes well and I'm with you that it's time to put it away. We're not playing with Barbie dolls here; this is life and death.

Thanks for speaking out so clearly and eloquently.

I am hoping more reply we need to get everyone  to make a day to take a stand and have our voices heard and have the money spent for a true cure so no more  lives are lost from breast cancer.

I like the idea of wearing black instead of pink. Yikes. I think I'll look for a pin to wear in October, an alternative to a pink ribbon, that could help start some conversations about the points Bobcat and Hopeful make above.

Shetland, if you see a pin that might make the point, please post it here!

We need a creative jewelry designer to show how the black reality overshadows the "pink washing" broadcast by so many media outlets and profit seeking corporations. Perhaps putting the pastel ribbon pin inside a shroud of sheer dark fabric/netting, like the veils women wore during times of mourning...

Metavivor.org has a pin that they sell on their web site. It's not black, but it would be an option instead of that pink one -- at the very least, people might ask about it and you could explain why you wear it. And buying one would donate to Metavivor, which gives money directly to research for the breast cancer that kills.

Just a thought. Not trying to sell anything.

Oh you hit a sore subject with me. LOL You are SO right!! Screw finding more "treatments" find a cure. That being said. There is WAY to much money in Cancer. Billions of $$$$$ made from the drugs, treatments, and fund raising from corporations. All this pink crap is just that. They raise millions of $$ "for the cause" but only a mire 1 or 2 percent actually goes to "the cause" the rest is pocketed by the companies. It's such a scam. And black ribbon or something would be good. It's not cute it's not pretty it's ugly and vicious. And should be shown as such.

Maybe a skull and crossbones covering the chest would be more appropriate. Ummmm!!

Ok don't steal my idea!!!! LOL

vlnrph - I like your idea. I like the Metavivor pin, too, but I think we need something stark (like the black) to push back against the whole pink thing.
