This is an die-in to demand additional research funding to help save the lives of women and men living with metastatic Breast Cancer. We will lay down on the west lawn of the US Capitol Building to represent the people who die every day of this disease.

110 men and women die every day from MBC. The aim is to have 1430 people die-in and about 20-30 non-die-ers to help out with holding banners and logistics during the event. Hoping we'll all be able to recruit plenty of supporters (early stagers who support our goals; friends; college students; spouses; whoever) so we can meet our goal.

The first Die In, at the 2015 Living Beyond Breast Cancer Metastatic Breast Cancer Conference in Philadelphia, featured 108 women for the American statistics.

We really need to get the real statistics out to the public that 7 % are initially diagnosed with stage IV Breast cancer and over 30% of the supposively cured early stages 0-3 well develop stage IV that is the awareness that needs to be brought to the public view.   Look on the Stage  IV forum and see for yourself almost all were diagnosed with early stage breast cancer 2yrs, 5yrs,8yrs1 15yrs... after the original diagnoses.   They only do a 5 yr study ? Why? We have to join as one force!!i Every  stage of Breast cancer has to stand up together and demand a true cure.   We want transparency these organizations have to give more money  to the cause not administrative costs!  If we join together as one  we are stronger and our numbers are astronomical   (stage 0-IV) they will have to listen!   We must DEMAND A CURE!!!! How many more lives do we have to lose, How many mothers, fathers, sisters, cousins, daughters, sons, friends, neighbors  and coworkers do we have to watch die!!!  Our voices have to be heard!!! No more pink we all should show up at the pink rallies wearing black to honor all the lives that have been lost and show everyone that this is what cancer truly is not pretty and pink get our message out there let them know we demand a cure!   United we can win a true cure for breast cancer!

Yes "finding" cancer early doesn't mean it won't progress to stage 4. This word is not being heard.

    Hey there!

I'm flying into Miami and I am wearing the shirt below. I posted some additional details of this event in the Stage IV area:

    https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topic/8...

I also have a sample letter to send to your Senators and representatives in Congress. Hope to see some of you there!

That shirt makes the point and if this demonstration gets good media coverage that will be awesome.

I'd love to see all the Delta flight attendants wear the T shirt instead of their ridiculous pink blouses, shirts and turtlenecks in October. Just peeves me -

I put a bunch of stuff in a posting on my FB page about the fallacy of Komen and Pinktober. I have 523 "friends." Guess how many "liked" my posting. Two, yes that's right, 2. Of those two, one is Stage IV and the other just lost her best friend to the beast. And lots of friends in my town have had breast cancer. Two have died recently. I don't understand why people are not getting the message? Fear? Too busy being dumbed down by the media? :-(. It's frustrating...

I posted this t-shirt photo on my FB page - with hundreds of "friends" and received 3 likes...no one wants the ugly truth about pink. It's not about the likes really, I just want people to be aware, not of BC but the fallacy that pink is a cure.

That is exactly what I did, Amy--I posted the T-shirt with some info on Komen. Still only 2 likes :-(. Everyone wants things sugarcoated or rather pinkcoated.

That is really sad and frustrating, Amy & Kat.

I think some of it is peer pressure - it's not socially acceptable to be anti-Komen. They are the 2000 pound gorilla in the game.

Well... my post is up to 8 likes and I don't expect anymore. One other person shared it on her FB, and she had breast cancer. She has 97 friends and received not a single like :-(. So much for social media to spread the message.

The thing with social media is everyone supports a cause. Today is national coffee day, recently there was national dog day and apparently an erroneous national daughter day. It's also childhood cancer month and I think there's something going on with awareness of heroin addition and overdoses for September. Add that to the supermoon, the Pope's visit to the U.S., the big stink about a nurse wearing a "doctor's" stethescope and all the local, college and national football scores, posts about breast cancer are just one more thing popping up on everyone's FB newsfeed.

Having been on FB since 2008, I'm growing weary of it. Everyone has a cause, and no one pays attention to anyone else too much. I still check it out each day but I wonder why I do. One gal posts about the meaning of good relationships. Another gal posts cute little reminders to have a happy Monday! Tuesday! Wed....blah. And still, another gal is offended by everything that comes down the pike.

This year, after dealing with bc for almost 5 years, I wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper regarding how the pink promotions in October overshadow the facts of bc. Among other things, I included some bc facts as well mention that we need research, not awareness. The letter will be printed in the paper this Sunday. It seems a more targeted approach and I am a bit more comfortable writing about it after dealing with bc for these many years. Once my letter is printed, I plan to post it on this forum and will provide a link in case you're interested in reading it.

Here's my shirt! I posted it to my FB and got 42 likes/20 comments so far. I think it depends on your feed. I am a journalism professor, so my FB friends are a pretty media-oriented bunch. I hope to see some of you at the die-in in Washington, DC, on October 13. Info here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topic/835055
