Greetings everyone,

I was referred to this group via another group so I am sort of new........I think. It has been a while since I have been here and I am glad to say that my friend has done very well with her chemo treatments. She is now entering into the radiation part of the treatment which she gets five days a week until March of 2016. She has experienced some skin sensitivity and some hair loss wiith the chemo but now some of the hair has grown back but its thin and less density. What effect does the radiation have on the hair? And will the hair grow back? How long does the radiation/chemo stay in the body before it is totally out of the system? Any advice for this second part of the treatment?

Thank you

I can only answer a part of your questions: Radiation only affects hair in the area being radiated. I have one hairless armpit-hair may or may not grow back-I've been told both. So far, nada. However, not a hair on my head was lost due to breast radiation, although I did pull a few out during that stage of my treatment. Radiation, because it is daily, is tedious, but each session is quick. Fatigue and skin issues seem to be the most common problems w RADS.

Anyway, not sure about the other questions. These boards tend to be a bit slow on weekends, but this should put it back to the top and hopefully others will chime in soon.
