radioligist report found a 1.5 cm spiculated mass. When I read about spiculated masses the odds are extremely high for malignancy, 90-96%. But he also gave a birads Acord of 4b. Is that more hopeful?  Biopsy scheduled for next week but feel turned upside down right now.

I believe a Bi-Rads 4b is in the range of 10%-50%. If it makes you feel better, I have seen quite a few people here in the "undiagnosed" forum with spiculated masses which turn out to be benign.

I'm sorry you find yourself here.

I'm sorry you are here. I had brads 4b. I hope you get benign results

DearK6878, Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry that your mass has brought you here but we are glad that you reached out. As you can see there is a good deal of support here from those who care and understand. Check out this link to more information on the BI-Rads system. Best wishes to you and please keep us posted on your results. The MOds

    Dear K:

I have had MANY, MANY benign diagnoses over the years with Bi-Rads 4b prior to my bc diagnosis last summer.  However, my malignancy was also Bi-Rads 4b.  To answer your question, a diagnosis of Bi-Rads 4b has much better odds than the statistics that you gave of the 90-96% chance for a malignancy with a spiculated mass.

I currently have another Bi-Rads 4b, 1.5cm linear non-mass enhancement with rapid washin washout kinetics from my MRI.  I am on a 6 month wait and watch protocol because they could not biopsy the area in May 2015.  They did biopsy another Bi-Rad 4b area in May 2015 and that turned out to be benign.  I will find out more information when I have my next diagnostic mammogram, sonogram, and MRI that are scheduled for November 2015.  Because I have had so many benign core and excisional biopsies to date, I am hoping and expecting that this "suspicious area" will be benign too. The statistics favor a benign rather than a malignant finding with Bi-Rads 4b.

Good luck and I am praying for a benign diagnosis for you.  I hope that this information helps you.

guess that is what is confusing. The Birad number does not correspond to the information about spiculated masses.
