I was diagnosed yesterday with ductal carcinoma in situ. I will see the surgeon on Monday. My doctor says this is non invasive and I will be fine. She believes my options will be lumpectomy followed up with radiation, or a mastectomy. It will be my decision. Of course I will know more after I see the surgeon. Comments, anyone? I am scared to death

I had DCIS and yes, it js good that it is non-invasive. What kind of treatment option will depend on more specifics and your own personal feelings. When I first diagnosed, I thought I would do lumpectomy with radiation but decided that if my BRCA testing came back positive that I would do a mastectomy. Well the BRCA testing came back negative but I found out from further testing that I had multiple areas of DCIS in one Breast and is was high grade, so I ended up with mastectomy and reconstruction. Meeting with the surgeon will definitely help give you a lot more information and guidance in the options available. It is a very scary time, but you will feel a little better once a game plan is in place. I'm here if you need to talk!

    hi,

I'm in the same boat. I have DCIS and am having my lumpectomy on Tuesday. I was completely freaked out and scared but talking to my team of docs really helped. And having my treatment plan. It gets easier after that. Not easy, but easier. I'm still worried they will find invasive in my DCIS after my lumpectomy. But I try not to worry too much. Take it one day at a time.

Do you know yet what your treatment plan is? What happens after the visit with the surgeon? Are there more tests before the actual surgery

thank you for the reply kayb. I will be having a lumpectomy combined with bilateral reduction in just 2 days. I will also have radiation in a few weeks. I am nervous and hoping I have made the right decision. I will also have the sentinel node removed
