Tang, glad to hear it wasn't a clot. Just a mega-bruise, huh?
Wait a minute Octo, you bought split peas instead of lentils? I thought you just cooked your lentils until they looked like split peas.
-
Hi all again:
Tang, glad it wasn't a blood clot! I've never had one, but hubby has, and it is not fun. and Jan, get better very soon! We need you well for the SoCal get-together...
Yes, Cubbie, they actually were split peas and not lentils (which is why they turned to mush after absorbing all the water, which lentils won't do). In my defense, I didn't buy them, they were in the pantry. Hubby had bought them from the organic bulk bins, so they weren't labelled. BUT, I do know the difference in what split peas and lentils look like, so I have no excuse, really. I blame it on being in CrazyTown.
Let's just say they only tasted good enough to be dinner since neither hubby nor I wanted to go out in the rain to get something else, and we were a little low on options. I went shopping today and will make it up to him tonight with a roast chicken, asparagus, salad. Thankfully, I have managed to get over the aversion to grocery shopping that I developed during chemo (I hate the idea of my favorite checkers seeing me looking like cancer girl instead of Octogirl..). I really prefer to shop myself rather than leave it to hubby. He never gets it quite right. I am sure many of you can relate. If not, there is this classic bit to remind you of the perils of sending left-brained husband to the grocery store:
Hugs to all!

Octo, Now that is FUNNY. Thanks for sharing. I'd show it to my dh, but not sure he'd get it.
-
Hi all, I make that no knead bread all of the time! It's delicious. You honestly can't go wrong. I've put in all kinds of flavors into the dough, also. Olives and rosemary, asiago cheese. and roasted garlic, raisins and spices. I love bread!!
Octo Sorry that you are going through hard times. It should be mandatory that sick people go home from work. Yikes.
I got to take my first shower since my lumpectomy. Yea.
-
That was funny! I like the head hanging bit, too! I explained it very badly to my man, he got it, even though he NEVER goes to the store. Once, after I had lived with him almost ten years, we went to trader joe's together, because we were on our way home from somewhere, and that time , he didn't want to wait in the truck. So, we took about 5 steps into the store and he stopped dead in his tracks. Now, let me tell you, he has a deep rumbling voice that can be heard above almost any din, so he said "WHERE"S THE COFFEE?" in his remarkably innocent loud way. The whole store it seemed, stopped what they were doing, heads all swiveled to him!!! I whispered to him, but I really tried not to laugh, "they moved it 7 years ago". 'Cause it used to be the first thing you would see when you walked in! Now, I am trying to teach him how to cook things, where to find things in the house (while I am streamlining everything, I hope) just in case I die before him (head hanging).
Where IS DUCKY?!!?! Hopefully, my dear Ducky, you are okay? I am worrying about you, especially since the sale of the house..
-
Octo, where are you in California that you got rain? We are supposed to maybe get some on Sunday and Monday, Hoping!!
-
Tomboy...right in the middle of the state...more or less...well, within 100 miles of the true geographic center of the state. We got over an inch last night and this morning and more is coming tonight! I am content to spend much of the weekend indoors watching it....Fingers crossed it gets further south too!
Iammags: I am sure that shower felt great!
And yes, where are you Ducky? And Sula? I worry about quiet crazies too....
Hugs to all

too funny for words!

Thank goodness just the sign alone cheered me up.
I need help. I finished my second radiation therapy last April.
Went for a follow up and my tumor markers went up so PET scan for me. Doctor called today and it showed a spot under my arm pit. Great who needs a armpit anyway Lol.
My question is this what the heck?
I started with a 0.8 cm stage 1/ no nodes in 2009. Lumpectomy and Rads . Arimadex and Lupron.
4 yrs of oh sh! What if's. Then it was back stage 1 no nodes b/l mastectomy and chemo. Aromasin.
1 month after chemo it's back in my skin locally so another round of Rads for me. I just healed.
I swear it must have been the multiple stings from the jellyfish I took while vacationing. Brought it back. See Crazy right.
Now well I don't know. What's the since of finding it early seriously.
I keep thinking . I'm screwed.
I need encouragement. So confused where this node came from and is there more CA just waiting for next year.
I feel great. Please help I'm exhausted. Where is all of this awesome new advances in treatment?
I've been to Boston /Sloan /and locally here in Jersey.
Help think quick. My doctor is calling my breast Surgeon to removed it??????
I asked him for a Mri first.
-
duckyb, I miss you. I have a cure for the blues. Went to my DGS first tball game today. Yes indeed he was THAT kid who ran in the wrong direction, lol. By the end of it all the other team was cheering for him and he got the game ball. Too cute.
-
Welcome funthing42, yikes sorry for all you are going through. I am glad you are asking for a MRI.
-
Thanks lol hopefully I'll feel better soon!!
-
Another "welcome, funthing42". There's a welcome basket around here somewhere--let me turf it out on behalf of our Mayor--but for now, yeah, that dog's about how I feel most days.
-
Welcome, Furthing! Wow, you have had a rough time of it in these last couple of years. Will your doctor let you have the MRI?
-
Hi Crazies,
Funthing!! Welcome to our crazy thread.
I remember you from the bonfire. CRAP! I can't believe you're having to go through this AGAIN. Please pull up a chair and get comfy. You'll love the women here and all the support they offer. Sending gentle hugs to you!! Love the dog pic!
Italy, Sorry to hear about your grandson.I hope he gets well soon.
Lucy, Spending time with the grands this weekend? I can't wait to be able to say that.
Rainy, Here are the pictures. This one is after the 12 hr rise.
This second one is when we took it out after the 12 hr rise.
Here is the finished loaf.
Soooo good!! I loved the crust!! Thank you!!
Katy, Here is your chicken chili recipe.
I'm so full I can't move. It was delicious!! I guess I'll have to provide some of the food porn until Sula gets back.
Tang, I'm glad you didn't have a clot. Sorry you had to spend the night in the ER. I'm very glad it's a hematoma and not something more serious. I hope the pain gets better for you soon.
Iris, I also had that nasty cough and they put me on a z-pack. They said it was bronchitis.
Octo, I am the opposite of you. I hate going to the grocery store and my DH does all the shopping. He is an expert grocery shopper!! That video was very funny!!
Mags, I think we will experiment with the no knead bread next time. I love the idea of the rosemary. There is nothing like a shower. I bet it felt so good!!
Tomboy, Your man story cracked me up. On the way to the store today, DH and I took a picture of a license plate I thought you would like. I'll text it to you. I'm sure the driver probably thought we were nuts. I tried to make it look like I was taking a picture of the clouds in the sky.
JAN, Waving!! They gave me cough syrup with codeine. I hope you were able to get some too.
Ducky, Yooooouuuu hooooooooo!!! Where are you?!?!
Sula, Thinking of you!! I hope you're out of that stinkin' brace soon.
Gaia, Hi sweet sister!! Waving to you!!
Molly, OMgosh. I love the baseball picture!! Oh how I miss those days.
Poppy, Hope your weekend is going well. I bet you're doing something fun with the boys.
QM, I feel like that dog too on most days.
GMA, I've got to say.......the last couple of pictures on your thread were just stunning. I miss spending time in Oregon.
For those I didn't mention, I hope you're all having a pain free, wonderful Saturday!!
Ran some errands today. Picked up our taxes and went to the grocery store. We are getting ready for the rain that's supposed to come tonight, Sunday and Monday. We did all our cooking today so we can just light a fire and rest all day tomorrow. I can't wait for the rain.
Love to all...quiet crazies too!!

Awesome Sometimes It's All You Need
-
I know but we all are tough as can be.
It's weird the options seem limited. I feel unless you find them yourself it's very narrow. Thank goodness I have this. Or I would be crazy.
-
Beppy- your bread looks AMAZING!!!! The chili too! I bet your DH was impressed!
I have some bco friends from my chemo group here for the weekend. They came to help me cleanup my spring garden. What a gift of friendship. They worked in the garden until they were completely soaked with rain, then we came indoors and had a fire, some games, great conversation and food. None of us had ever met in person. I'm just so lucky. Here are some pics:
Above: helping hands
We had chili 3 ways and an arugula, butter lettuce and spinach salad with goat cheese, walnuts apple, and cranberries with a poppyseed dressing. Homemade cornbread, pumpkin bread and rolls. A bit if bubbly. Nice evening.
-
Katy!! What a treat and a gift of friendship. I just love the women we meet here on BCO. Slow, the chili and bread look amazing. I woke up with barely a voice this morning. Oh as, at least we finally got octogirl' rain!!
-
Beppy, your bread and chili look terrific. I'll be there this afternoon--don't throw out the leftovers!
Katy, thanks for posting pictures from your party. Sounds like a joyous time! Also, your dishes are beautiful.
Welcome, Funthing. SO sorry you have to be here, but welcome!
Molly, your DGS is adorable! I remember a few years ago, hanging out during Little League practice, watching a Pee-wee coach having the kids run the bases and realizing that one reason he was doing it was because you just don't start out knowing which way to go!
Glad you Californians are getting rain. Just baked scones and am going to brunch!
-
Good Morning all;
Molly, I loved the pic of DGS....How fun! one of my worries is that my grandkids are going to grow up as Dodgers fans, since they live in LA and all ... my intent was to take them to their first major league game last summer in San Francisco, to counter-balance that possibility. (DD and DSIL haven't taken them to any baseball games yet, nor do the kids play, as soccer is the game of choice in their household...but you know how it is: kids pick up things in school you don't want them to learn :-)) ..but anyway, SFBC got in the way. This summer, for sure.
Katy, how wonderful...I love the photos of the table, so beautiful and comforting all at the same time. BCO sisters really are a blessing!
All this talk of bread, I may have to bake some today. The rain is still coming, two inches in the past day and a half...woohoo! At one point it was loud and hard enough last night to wake me up; of course the broken gutter that hubby hadn't gotten around to fixing (and for the last five years, why would he bother?) may have had something to do with all the noise... :-)
I have a full schedule today, not to mention the Downton Abbey finale tonight, so will try and check back in later, but I did want to be sure that all the crazies had seen last week's BIG news:
http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/okeanos/explorations...
Sending love to all the crazies!

Thanks for all the welcomes . I just love California I use to live in Rancho Cordova many years ago as a child. We visit California often such a massive State but it cheers me up thinking of it. Avatar Bodega Bay Beach.
I love the dishes used in the place setting.
Fresh bread yum.
Thanks again for the warming the heart.
-
Katy.. How lovely you had the girls over !! I wish some ladies from here lived near me.!!
Slow. Oh Yum.. Your food looks delicious!! Hope you enjoy your rainny day :-)
Funthing.. Welcome to Crazy Town :-)
Rainny.. I can smell your scones from here ( the winds blowing in just the right direct :-)) Yummy!
Ducky.. Miss you xx
So yesterday we were at our son's family home.. 45 minutes away.. Hubby's phone rings.. It's his brother who is a 10 hour drive away, and he says we're up your way.. We'll be at your place in an hour.. Can we stay the night?? Well.. Of course they can stay.. and we had a great time.. But I wish I'd had a day, or even a few more hours notice to make their bed, plan a menu, clean the house.😱 Anyhow.. We're off to the beach with them today ( I'm on my phone in bed still) , then taking them for a drive to show them around.
-
Katy, great photos! I envy you guys being able to get together, and having the ambition to cook. Eating soup straight out of the can is about all I'm up to these days.
-
(((Cubbie))) I wish I could say I didn't know what that felt like. It's been a couple of months since I last felt like cooking. It's quite the barometer for my general outlook. Just try tohang on. Sometimes that the best I can do. And eventually things begin to turn around a little. I'm sorry you're hurting, 💞💞💞
-
Your not alone slept all day put a rump roast in the crock pot slept while others had dinner. So freaking depressed.
Optimisim!
-
Katy, I'm sorry to hear you've had the soup-straight-out-of-the-can days, too. Sometimes I just feel so hopeless. Every little ache and pain, even the ones that last for just a second, worries me. And some days I still can't believe this is happening at my age. I'm sure you can relate to all of that. ((Katy))
Funthing, your cartoon made me laugh, if only for a second. Thank you.
Slow, I hope you are doing OK. Has anyone heard from Ducky?
-
(( Cubbie )) I know exactly how you feel.. :-(
-
Yikes! This is what I get for not marking this a “favorite” thread (haven’t done that for any thread). I figured that since it didn’t come up when I clicked “Active Topics” and went 6 pages deep, there wasn’t any activity!
Hugs to everyone going through crises, yay for everyone announcing good results! (I’d be more voluble but it’s after 4 am and I’ve been up since forever). But I will join in and voice my concern about Ducky--it’s not like her to suddenly stop posting. Hoping she’s just too busy gearing up for little Bobby’s first birthday party.
Saturday the Michigan ladies, one from Oregon visiting her bro in Indy, and I gathered at Sandhill Crane Vineyards in Jackson, MI (despite 3” of freshly fallen snow) for lunch, wine tasting and touching base with each other. Here’s a pic:
R side, top to bottom: CWayman650, Suz-Q, Maureen1, NancyHB. L. side, top to bottom: Pontiac Peggy, me, Gypsy Jo.
Amazing, strong, beautiful women--honored to call them my sisters!
In May (the evening of Sun. the 22d), after a weekend music conference I will be performing a benefit concert for Healing Touch in Hickory, NC at the American Honor Ale House & Brewery (thanks to Happy Hammer for putting it together). Hope those of you in the Carolinas (Hickory is 90 min,. e. of Asheville and 45 min. n. of Charlotte, in the part of NC made famous by the PBS hit series “A Chef’s Life,” about chef Vivian Howard). More details as I get them. (And if you’re near Iowa City the weekend before, my duo Andina & Rich will be playing a concert at Uptown Bill’s...downtown).
We were supposed to do a house concert in the suburb of Wauconda, IL, but it was postponed twice--first because of subzero weather and then due to that horrid respiratory bug that seems to be spreading like wildfire. We had a nice sized RSVP list, but all except one canceled the week before the show. Bob’s still coughing. And my friend--recently diagnosed with grade 3 DCIS and then a second mass on MRI followup--had to cancel her MRI-guided stereotactic biopsy sim because she got the bug and couldn’t breathe in the prone position, delaying her surgery (which is now looking more like a bmx rather than lx) at least two weeks.
-
sula, good to hear from you and to hear that it was only the dang computer
Thinking a pm to ducky and hope she is just busy
Me off to pt shortly so later all
