Arimidex - and HOT FLASHES Help??!! :(

Hi there, I've been on Arimidex for a month now and I am going nuts with these heat surges in my body. My oncologist laughed when I told him. He said he was expecting to hear that. I'm a hot person to begin with, now I'm always hot and start sweating at the most embarrassing moments. I have to take this medication for 5 years to keep my breast cancer from returning. PLEASE what do you do for these hot flashes and sweats????? Any help???

Also, have any of you had any affects with weight loss or weight gain on this medication? I'm just wondering.

PS - FYI - I had Intraductal Carcinoma in situ Stage 1A Grade 2 (Bilateral Mastectomy with implant reconstruction) Surgery was 6 weeks ago.

I havent started hormonal treatment yet. But I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago including ovaries. I was on estrogen for two years until my dx of DCIS. Then I stopped cold turkey. I didn't have many side effects surprisingly. But I do get some night sweats and stress can cause me to flash as can chocolate . But I am also on celexa which is know to help manage menopausal hot flashes. I am going to up my dose when I start tamoxifen.

So I guess my advice is maybe see about celexa or Effexor? Both are supposed to help.

I still haven't figured out the night sweats, I usually kick the covers off a few times a night and don't even wake up much when I do so it hasn't really affected my sleep.

As for weigh loss, I gained weight on estrogen, or maybe it was the celexa too. I haven't tried to lose weight since my dx but I'm not as bloated not having estrogen.
