My Mom and her being just diagnosed
My mother has just been diagnosed with breast cancer...She is scared and afraid and not very computer savy...Im reaching out to other people who have been down this road...She has been diagnosed with DCIS and IDC Stage 3...Her report from her biopsy states that it is lymphovascular invasion is identified...she is going next week to get an echo and then a port a cath to start chemo by next week...she is going to be having 3 different types of chemo...adriamycin....cytoxan....and taxol for 8 weeks and then she will be having surgery and they are unsure if it is just going to be a masectomy or a double masectomy...she has a fractured rib somehow and they are doing a bunch of scans to see if the cancer has spread...the doctors do not really know much yet and that is nerve racking...my mother is scared and afraid and i have never saw her so afraid...i would like to know if anyone can help me help her...maybe let me know what chemo side effects are and if there is anything that can help with the side effects...please any help is greatly appreciated thanks

How 'young' is your Mom? I was 63 when DXd IBC - next month will b 6 yrs ago and I am still here and NED (No Evidence of Disease). Loving life and as active as ever!
My DX (diagnosis) is different - IBC. I did 4 DD A/C (Adriamycin and Cytoxin) neoadjuvant (pre surgery) and 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant (post surgery).
No one can tell you what your Mom may experience from the different chemos - we are each unique. For me, A/C did not slow me down at all but Taxol completely and UTTERLY exhausted me. It is different for others. There is no 'One Size Fits All'!.

The beginning is the hardest part. As you learn, get a plan and begin active treatment the posture changes. There are a lot of great people here that can answer almost everything. I had a different chemo than they are suggesting to her as they were concerned about the heart effects of the Adriamycin (high BP history) therefore they went with F5U, instead. I hope that you can relate to her that there are many survivors here. (7 yrs for me) I wish you and your mother all the best as she begins treatments.
