Hello everybody, I'm new here, and this page has been very helpful for me to understand what my mom is going through. She was diagnosed a month ago, she's 43, with stage IIIB and node invasion (don't know how many), ER+ and PR+, HER-, as a single mom, she has been through a lot, and it pains me to see her like that. We're very close (i'm 20) and this thing came so unexpected. The thing is that we face a huge wall between cancer and treatment and is the medical insurance. In my country cancer patients are not a priority so many people die even without the treatment, my mom's exams to know what treatment she needs takes like 2 months, just for the biopsy we would have to wait a month so she could have it, fortunately we could pay it privately and in 10 days she had it. Right now i'm in a legal battle with the health system for her treatment, if i were to be patient with this she would be treated a year from now. And that can't be! The cancer can't wait!!

I am optimistic, I"m fighting with all that I have, I will have no rest, not until I get my mom's treatment as soon as posible.

But sometimes I need to vent and sorry if this is not what you expect, Iwant to ask if anyone has been through that? How did you managed it?

As I discovered this forum I learned how tough you people are, you are so positive, so great, I just wish each of you can win this battle, I would aprreciate your inspiring words, thanks for your time reading this,

Silvia

Hello Linda, thank you, I live in Colombia, Bucaramanga. Unfortunately the health sytsem here is all a business and money that should be invested in patients and treatments are invested in other things. I managed to get an oncologyst for my mom today and he will see her. but the health insurance called me and told me that my mom couldn't go there and she had to wait for another month and get a consult with another oncologyst. I got furious, I will go today with her no matter what.

Silvia - how frustrating! Here in Canada we have a socialized health care system. I live in Quebec and it is sometimes very hard to have access to medical care because of long waiting lists. Once we get in the system, we have good care. But one has to stay on top of things because of bureaucracy, follow up because we sometimes fall between the cracks. A lot of precious energy is wasted. I wish you and your Mom the best. If you can, it is always a good thing to keep copies of all results should you seek a second opinion. Keep us posted. You can come here and rant, vent anytime.

    Linda
