In shock and scared, advice please x
Hi everyone, im new here & needed to vent with some people in the same situation as me.
So about 3 month ago I found a lump in my left breast, quite hard, just above my nipple. I went to to my Dr a month ago & he told me to go back in a month if it was still there. I went back last week & he said it felt ok but he referred me to the hospital for an ultrasound just tobe on the safe side.
I went to the hospital today, saw the consultant who said he didn't think it felt like anything to worry about but just go and have an ultrasond to clarify. I went and had the ultrasound expecting just to see a nice round ball of fluid or whatever but instead it was a lumpy, clustered hard mass. A bit like a bunch of peas. The sonographer didn't say much at all but she did say that she needed to do a biopsy there and then.
I was in too much shock to ask any questions. One thing I do recall her asking was if I am breastfeeding, which I am not and I didn't ask her why she had asked this. Any ideas?
My appointment for the results is next week, im sure I'll be fine but I really didn't expect that.
Any opinions?
Thanks Jenna xxxx

Hi Jenna-
We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for the worry that brings you here, but we hope you find the support you need!
She might have asked if you were nursing because the mass is located in or near a milk duct, which could explain the mass. We know it's hard not to worry, but we suggest staying off Dr. Google and trying to stay positive while you wait for your results! Keep in mind, the majority of these issues turn out to be benign, and likely youre will be too.
Please keep us posted when your results come back, we'll be thinking of you!

Jenna,
First, most important, 80% of all biopsies comeback benign. The odds are in your favor. Also, keep in mind that on a site like this you are reaching the 20% audience rather than the other.
I think that they asked if you were breast feeding because I think sometimes a milk duct gets a distorted clustered look on a mammogram. There are lots of benign reasons that a milk duct can take on this look. Try to stay positive. Waiting is very hard!
