Silly question....
when I go in for my lumpectomy will I remove all my clothes under my gown? Specifically do I need to remove my panties too?

I was given a two-piece outfit with pants and a top that opened in the front. Did not remove panties.
-
I bought disposable panties at a pharmacy - 100% cotton, I think, and was allowed to wear those.
-
I was told to remove them but I didn't and no one said anything
-
I temember the hospital gown, but not specifically about panties
-
I was to remove them and put the gown on, but I was allowed to wear my wig. Weird but I was happy to wake up with hair.
-
I specifically remember having to remove my nicotine patch;

I took everything off for the one surgery I had (not lumpectomy). I figured it was safer to not wear anything that hadn't been sterilized.
(btw, congratulations, Melissa, on quitting smoking! I will never forget how hard it was for me, eighteen years ago.)

Ninetwelve, hardest thing I ever did! congrats to you too

I've had 4 lxs and wore my panties for each. I learned after the first one that I could wear warm socks under the disposable slipper/foot covers. It depends on the area of the body on which you are having surgery, or the length of surgery. Obviously for GYN surgery, you would have to remove your panties. My BMX with recon was 4 1/2 hours and I was asked to remove everything. This is because of all the IV fluids and with the duration of a longer surgery, they need to use a Foley catheter part way through to drain the bladder and don't want panties in the way. There's no need for you to remove your panties for a lx. Good luck with your surgery.

Panties and hospital issued socks were worn!

I love this question! I should have asked the same thing. When I had my kids, I remember thinking that I wished I could keep my clothes on ... how silly, as all modesty flew out the window and hasn't really returned since. For my BMX I was asked to strip entirely, and I guess I probably had to need to have my underwear off because I had some kind of sensors on my hips.
I think all hospitals differ, but wow, I wish my hospital had let me keep my wig. I was wheeled through the halls wearing only a gown and a blue poufy surgical cap that was transparent. I'm so glad I didn't run into someone I knew! It was one of the most humiliating experiences of my life, honestly, because they even wheeled me through the mammogram waiting room. I was like the bald poster child for what could go wrong. After a few minutes, I wrapped a sheet around my head. My husband said I looked like a nun, and we had a good laugh. So it was okay.

thank you all for your replies. Metta, being wheeled through mammography and being the poster child for what can go wrong made me smile. I'm sorry they did that to you, but at least you had a good sense of humor.
You'd think I'd have no modesty left either after 4 deliveries and a vaginal hysterectomy, and my boobs being open season for everyone these days...

I wore both socks and underwear. Be sure to have something comfy to go home in. Yoga pants and a zip/button up top. I thought I would share my funny story. I was in the operating room sitting on the table just getting ready to go to sleep when they realized they hadn't done a pregnancy test. Off I went to pee in a cup and then everyone had to wait until the lab called the operating room. Apparently it is standard protocol. At least it helped to lighten the mood!!!

haha. JJ. No chance of that for me, the baby factory was removed 2 years ago.
-
I was told to remove everything including underwear. After surgery when I was about to get dressed I suddenly remembered I too had forgotten to remove them.
