Chemo #2 hair fallout

The flurry of diagnosis to treatment was a blur. My first round of chemo was bad, I was so anxious and my port was fresh and swollen, It took quite a bit to be accessed. I had a huge bruise after. I wasn't able to tolerate the compazine I was given it made me so anxious,I was crawling the walls after 2 doses, so I just stopped. By the time I got my meds switched around it was too late. Spent a good 5 days dry heaving and flat in bed. It was awful. I'm taking Adriamycin, Doxil and Cytoxan, plus Neulasta 24hrs later. Chemo #2 went better after a long talk with the oncologist and the right meds in place. Zofran, Decadron and Ativan, Benedryl for sleep. Seems to be working better this time. Yesterday my hair fell out in the shower.I was prepared, cut my waist length hair short, but still, it was shocking.Couldn't smile much. Today I put a bandana on, some make up and a big smile. Feeling better. #6 more chemos then surgery and then radiation. I was told I cannot have reconstrution because of the inflammatory charactertics even though I am IDC and not IBC as i first was told. Really hoping chemo will change the type of surgery I have. My world pretty much stopped upon diagnosis back in April. But life goes on, My daughter who lives with us just delivered a healthly newborn boy, we can snuggle. My other daughter is planning a fall wedding, I hope my drains will be out. Each day is a choice for me and some days I'm grumpy, but most days I just choose to live it. For all of you struggling today my thoughts and prayers are with you, delight in the simple pleasures and the things you can do.

We're thinking of you, Kathy. You sound like you're handling all of this very well; we love that you could put on a big smile today! (Definitely helps to have a snuggly baby boy to cuddle too :)

Please keep us posted on how you're doing! You may also want to check in with the June 2015 Chemo group or the July 2015 Chemo group to share experiences with others while going through chemo.

    We hope this helps!

I am expecting my hair to fall out any day now. I didn't cut it short. It's in horrible condition because of hypothyroidism and I tried bleaching it blonde not too long ago. It resembles poo poo anyway. I offered to let my 10 year old daughter go to town with bright dyes and a razor if she wanted to, but she declined.

When I was that age, I would have been all over an opportunity to make my mom look like a punk rocker or a peacock. :)

Kathy, the start of active treatment is hard for everyone and I'm sorry it's been particularly hard for you.

The brighter news is that you will get through it and, as you've already noticed, you will have occasions of happiness and joy again, some even while doing chemo!

I admire your strength but don't be afraid to feel sad sometimes if you want to. That's ok too.

Hoping things get better and better for you and you have a great response to chemo.

    Keep in touch.
