Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone has flown while taking tamoxifen. I read it can cause blood clots and I have an opportunity to go to Europe next week and I'm going to mexico in august. I'm a little nervous about the blood clot issue . I've been on the tamox now since may 14th. Thanks Sandy

I have flown many times while in Tamoxifen and have had no issues. As with any long flight you should get up every couple of hours and straight your legs.

I have taken several long-haul flights in the three years I have been on tamoxifen. Before that I was on the pill, which can also increase your chances of blood clots. When I fly, I always wear compression knee-high stockings and my feet don't swell up anymore. KushyFoot is one brand, and I've found them at Rite-Aid.

I recently went to Europe, and my feet/legs swelled up big time and were that way for several days. On the way back, I drank tons and tons of water and got up frequently to go to the bathroom, and I had no swelling at all.

Thank you all, I feel much better!!

    1. I will get the compression stockings.

    2. I will definitely get up and move around.

    3. I will drink lots of water.

    Great advise!!! Thanks again

I couldn't find the Kushyfoot brand at our rite Aid here, but I did get the Futuro brand that says it prevents embalisms!! They were expensive, 30$ but it will be worth it for my piece of mind!! :)

speace, my MO is also a hematologist (blood doctor) so we've discussed this. You've gotten good advice here. Drink lots of water; get up and walk around every 1-2 hours; you can also do those exercises in your seat (google for them or ....they may be in the in-flight magazine). Wear compression stockings. You can also take a baby aspirin. Consuming less salt helps too. (and food sold at the airport etc tends to be high in salt, so if you need an excuse to pack your own food or eat fruit or something...here it is ;) And have a great time!!!
