Having a treatment plan makes such a difference!

I met with my surgeon today. He spent nearly 2 1/2 hrs with me. He is amazing. So my plan is lumpectomy on July 28. Return to his office July 30 or 31 for the brachytherapy catheter (assuming negative margins) off to a CT scan to confirmation of proper placement and then 5 days of radiation starting August 3rd. Then I'm done until my first follow up. Having a plan is so empowering. I am going to meet with a MO but unless he can prove to me a huge risk reduction from taking AI's I'm going to decline. I am going to get a complete genetic work up done for cancer and if it looks like I should have a bilateral mastectomy then I will after we move snd get settled. I don't feel like I need to make that decision right now. I just want to deal with this and then once we move I'll deal with the preventative side.

I asked if my DCIS is comedo he said it's hard to tell from the pathology report because it doesn't state it but if it is it doesn't much matter, it's all treated the same way and the single most important thing from this is that he gets negative margins. He said the path report looks like it's mostly intermediate.

I asked if IDCis hiding in there. He said it could be but given my pathreport, the size of this, it's highly unlikely. But again if it, it's treated the same way but I would need a sentinel node biopsy done.

Feels so good to know where I'm going now!

Yeah! I know that's exactly how I felt to have a plan too. Glad everything is so positive!

Hi, 6/24/15 was when I was diagnosed with DCIS. I am scared out of my mind. I was the one who found the lump. Mammo in March showed nothing. Mammo and ultrasound 6/1/15 showed nothing. 6/8/15 MRI showed something. 6/15/15 MRI guided biopsy was performed. Results, positive. I am numb, still in disbelief. Spoke to a BS and gave me options, lumpectomy or mastectomy. Waiting to hear from Sloan Kettering's BS to have a 2nd opinion. I already decided I will have a double mastectomy but extremely afraid.

CAMommy, so glad you have a plan. I'm working on one.
