consultant says it looks like dcis ....
Hi guys my appointment for my biopsy results is tomorrow. They found two areas, little white spots on my scan which they showed me, I would not have noticed them if they had not been pointed out. They are almost in a horizontal like to each other. I am in total shock as consultant thought my lump was hormonal like what my GP said. So worrying like mad....going over and over what he said and looking for clues ...searching on the internet. Its maybe not the best thing to do but at least I have an understanding of what it is and what might happen and I can ask questions. Basically he said it looks like dcis but cant be sure obviously, would he know at this stage....could he be preparing me for the worst ...invasive....Im just in bits. I live alone and Im 43....Ive been through a divorce etc and just the time in my life Im getting myself together and wanting to meet someone and settle down again, this happens.....any comments appreciated.

Hi Terri, when I was exactly your age, I had those calcifications in a row (line) and I was told it was quite possibly (or even probably) DCIS, but it turned out to be atypical ductal hyperplasia, which is a high risk condition, but not cancer. It took 17 more years for me to go from atypical ductal hyperplasia to DCIS (age 60). That isn't to say that yours could be DCIS. If it is, it's highly treatable and not invasive. Very early IDC is also treatable. Best of luck with your appointment. Keep us posted.

hi Terri,
I went in for a routine mammo June 1st and they found a line of micro calcs too. I'm 46. I had a biopsy on the 17th and its DCIS. I was scared and worried too but DCIS has a very high cure rate.
My radiologist told me my health was not in danger and my life was not in danger. That catching this early this way is why we have mammograms.
However, there is still a high chance that your biopsy will come back negative. My radiologist told me to be prepared for mine to come back as DCIS though, so I had a little time for it to sink in so when I did hear the news I wasn't devastated, it was what I had been expecting.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Terri, we're so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. You're definitely involved in the right Community right here though for all the support, information, advice, and comfort you can get.
You may want to check in with the other members on the DCIS forum, to meet others with a similar diagnosis.
We hope this helps. Please keep us posted on how you're doing and how the 2nd biopsy goes...
