Re-excision lumpectomy - how many?

Hi everyone,

I am six days out from a re-excision lumpectomy, and I just found out that I do not have clean margins (AGAIN!). My surgeon is on vacation, so it will be a while before I can talk to her. The original tumor (IDC) was removed successfully in May, but my surgeon wanted to go back in because I had one positive margin for DCIS, and apparently I still have positive margins for DCIS. I am curious if there is anyone out there who has had more than one re-excision, and if so, why you decided on that option versus a mastectomy. Thanks so much.
