Major fatigue from hormonal treatment

Hi everyone,

I need pointers, suggestions, advice, anything because the intense fatigue from aromatose inhibitors is becoming unbearable. I'm wondering if anyone out there can share how they managed. Did symptoms get worse? I think I am doing all the right things: eating well, detoxing thru green juicing every other day, taking tons of supplements (vitamins, green vibrance powder, zinc, calcium, etc.) Trying to get at least 3 days a week of exercise... but the more I'm on this pill the worse I get. I literally feel like I can barely get through the day.

That's how I felt on Femara, I even had to take time of work which is not like me. My Oncologist suggested I try Tamoxifen which I have been on for a couple of months now. Apart from the hot flushes and minor aches and pains I am doing so much better. Don't get me wrong, I wish I could have stayed on Femara because it is supposed to be so much better for my type of cancer. But I guess you have to weigh everything up and be guided by your Oncologist?

Ask a doc to check your thyroid levels, and also for diabetes. Both can cause fatigue.

Don't know how long you have been on an aromatese inhibitor, nor which one you are taking. When I first began aromasin way back in 2005, I found I was very fatigued for about 18 months. Hard to know if this was the AI, recovering from surgery, chemo or rads, or just post treatment blahs. Slowly, however, I regained my energy though I gained some bone pain in its stead.

If you haven't already, you might try taking the pill at the opposite time of day - if you had been taking it in the morning, take it at night - or the reverse.  Also, make sure you are getting enough protein.

I'm thinking protein also - if you do take magnesium watch out for the dose you can get pretty sick if you take too much - my PCP has seen a few cases that required hospitalization - talk to your dr. and your pharmacist for proper dosage. Good luck, S.
