Liver mets: resection, ablation, SBRT, Y-90, anything else?

Glad all went well Sandi...I am on Day 7 post Y90...If I can make it about 4 more days I think I will be in the clear (as last time I think it was around day 10 I got hospitalized). I am so grateful to God for placing my IR and MO in my path....I love them.
-
I have liver mets, but haven't required y90 or sbrt (yet?). This group gives me strength and comfort that all these scary procedures are bearable. NicoleRod, confidence in our medical teams is critical. Glad you found the right ones! Continue to heal.
-
Sandibeach- you made it through! Hoping for great recovery and great report!

-
Sandibeach, glad part 1 went well! Hope you have a smooth & painless recovery.
-
Thank you everyone.
Other than big soreness in liver area and lower right back, I feel good today from Y90. The IR said most of the spheres got imto the vascular tumors, which is good news.
My biggest problem the past 6 weeks is painful fibrosis from "radiation recall" from SBRT. No fix. Apparently, I am a rare bird...ha.
-
Sandi,
Hope they can do something from the SBRT pain, or that it gradually subsides. Glad that the y90 went so well -- sounds like it hit its mark.
I hope all of this works and helps to resolve your immediate issues. Rest up and feel better.
-
Had my first lobe Y90'd today, doc said it was textbook perfect. Am still loopy from the drugs, but home resting and doing good.
Nicole and Sandy, so glad to hear you are both doing so well! (gentle hugs) and positivity coming atcha both!!
-
Terri where in VA are you? I am in Quantico
-
Hi BevJen,
My SBRT (internal beam) to one 2 cm liver met properly killed it. Yeah! But the bad news I had a RARE SE called Radiation Recall. I do not understand why it happens. Basically I burned from inside out a month+ later. Now I have radiation fibrosis. The gift that keeps on giving. I am attaching photo and I am holding my Right breast.
Terri-C. Glad you feel okay, too! But I keep thinking I am celebrating too early? My WBC count today was 1.9 and I am out in my garden pretending I am normal. Waiting for the neutrophil count.
-
Sandi,
Ouch. Wow. That does NOT look like fun. How about a burn specialist? Could that help?
Thinking of you.
-
BevJen..it has healed since that photo.Just now dealing with fibrotic tissue underneath. Niow have 2 new meds to help that! We will see.
-
terriC- glad you are through y90. Rest and heal!
Sandi- I remember now-ouch. Can you ask for an OT/PT referral to help with the fibrosis scar tissue by breaking it up? My OT uses massage and then a machine that has suction for myofascial release. It helps with my pain from mastectomy revision surgery but I have to go every three weeks for a one hour treatment to keep the scar tissue broken up.
Dee
-
Thanks Dee I will ask if PT is a possibility for radiation induced fibrosis..
-
I'm right down the road from you Nicole, I'm in Fredericksburg.
-
Terri....Wait...CHEMO BRAIN...did we speak on FB???
SANDI OMGOSH!!!!!!!!! Does that happen from regular radiation too or just SBRT bc SBRT is a stronger dose? I hope I don't get that...I did notice today that my C7 - T3 area feels a little tiny bit itchy some times but nothing out of the ordinary...
Today is Day 8 out from Y90... WHOOOO HOOOOOO once I get past day like 12 or 14 I will be happy.... I will say I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my IR and MO! I wouldn't trade them for the world. Even my MO says she doesn't want any one else (even at the cancer center she works at) to touch my liver she only wants my IR thats been with me since the previous Y90 in there.
-
Nicolerod, radiation recall is a rare side effect radiation and chemo. Can appear weeks, months later. I am just "lucky".
-
Sandi...so I can get that too from the 10 rad sessions I just had? I didn't have SBRT....
I have noticed my site is a little itchy at times...I just started putting lotion on it. If you have any suggestions let me know.
-
Nicolerod..I doubt it. It is very rare. No itching..just a rash that looked like shingles. It resolves with treatment. But if curious, just read about it on onsite sources.
Last thing you should worry about..you have enough already to deal with!
-
Hi all... I just wanted to let you all know I am about over 3 -4 weeks out from my 2nd Y90 and I did great!!!! My IR was right in saying that she thought I would do well since the tumors were not near the colon wall this time. She also did say I can get Y90 again if location is good and if liver numbers are good... (she said this bc I asked again , if there was a limit on how many times you can do Y90)....
I know a lot of you know I had a very rough time the 1st time...but this time was good. I also began chemo (Halaven - also 2nd time on this) last Tuesday ..this Tuesday will be my 2nd infusion and then off week.
-
what is Y90? Sorry to be so behind. Thanks

Y90 is a radiation treatment for tumors in the liver. Its called Y90 Radioembolization, and it kills the tumors in the liver, though they will eventually come back.
I'm just over 2 weeks out from left lobe treatment and doing well. Had a little pain and nausea, but that was it. Now just dealing with the fatigue, but I had that after my breast and spine radiation too.
-
Interesting video- SBRT is becoming more of an option! But has a way to go.

I want to say all you ladies on this board are so knowledgeable and inspiring! Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us! Ihave a question regarding y90. What makes a good candidate for y90? What does your IR look for when making a decision to recommend it or not recommend it? Does your IR always require a liver MRI?
-
Had my right lobe done on Monday, and OMG it hurt so bad
I had a little pain with the left lobe but nothing like what I've been going through with the right.
Did any of you experience crampy pain after Y90? If so, now long did it last? Its down to 1 section now, but I will be very relieved when its over!
-
hi Terri
I had discomfort with my r lobe y-90 but not severe pain. Nicolerod had pain because the tumor was close to the colon. You may want to talk to your team to get some answers and relief. Hope you feel better soon

Stereotactic body radiotherapy to treat breast cancer oligometastases: a systematic review with meta-analysis

So glad to see this research. I had SBRT to a single lung lesion that lit up on PET while my MBC liver mets were dormant. No new lung lesions!

The pain finally completely passed about 5 days after the Y90 treatment. No issues other than a slightly upset stomach occasionally since then. Am 2 weeks out now, and other than some fatigue, I appear to be doing just fine. Scan in January, and hoping like hell this worked
-
Terri,
Just curious -- how many lesions? And what were their size(s)?
Hope you continue to feel better and better.
-
BevJen, there were 4 that were between 1cm and 2cm, and a whole bunch of little ones (under 1cm), far too many to count.
-
Thanks, Terri.
I hope you are back to feeling better now -- on your last post you were still in a lot of pain.
