You'll be ok. What do they plan to do, mohs surgery? It is a surgery which insures that the least amount of your skin is removed but all of the cancer is removed, sort of like taking a breast tumor out and checking for clear margins.  There is also a crèam that they prescribe sometimes called aldara, it is used for genital worts but it kills off precancerous skin cancer.

I used a cream called curaderm to kill of the squamous naturally but I had a tiny spot and it took a long time to do it. Since it's on your back I would ask your dr. about mohs and then once it heals over you can ask your dr about following up with aldara.  Best wishes.

I've had 2 small SCCs (Squamous Cell Carcinoma) removed from my face. One actually was completely removed in the punch biopsy and the other surgically via an incision slightly less than a 1/2 inch. I also had a BCC (Basal Cell Carcinoma) on my upper arm. Mine did not look like a 'mole' but rather small dry flakey areas.

I've been fighting pre-cancerous skin lesions for years as I am very 'white' and have spent a lot of time outdoors all my life so my skin has been abused. I did use Imiquimod cream on my face as it removes pre-cancerous lesion. Glad I did as there were many large areas of pre-cancerous that I had no idea were there. According to my Dermatologist, once cells become cancerous, Imiguimod does not work.

My squamous also was small flakey dry areas, I went to the dermatologist about something else and happened to mention it to her because it kept peeling and peeling and never healing and there you go, skin cancer. The punch biopsy took most of it off it seems but the dermatologist wanted to follow up with the aldara. Then when I had even smaller spots later on and the beginning of a spot of basal I used to curaderm and like I said it took awhile but I knew that it worked because when I applied it the spots would get all red and irritated and then finally it stopped doing that, so I knew it was gone. That's the same thing that happens with aldara.  My issue was that since they were on my face I did not want to get all cut up.  Again, best wishes.
