Greetings all, hours ago I learned I have a low grade DCIS. I'm still in a bit of shock but I honestly feel a bit bettter than I did waiting for the results. My docs were 95% confident that I had a benign issue but sadly that wasn't the case. I meet with a surgeon on Tuesday but I have questions that I'm hoping you can help me with. My biggest worry is that they will find other areas that are worse than DCIS. My current area is somewhere between 2.5 and 4 CM x 1 x 2. I have to have an MRI mammogram. What are the chances they will find more? If it is confined to just what we see now I'm told I should consider this a small bump in the road with a 99% survival rate. I also have breast implants. My first instinct is to just do a total masectomy but I'm curious as to what others have done. I am 43 and also had a small fibroidenoma 2 years ago. I don't quite understand if this is cancer or not. I'm not sure how worried I should be. I'd love to hear from those of you with more experience than me

sorry for your diagnosis but this is the place to get support and answers

me. hi grade DCIS, had lumpies to get clear margins, did rads and just ended my 5 years on AL

not fun for sure but I am 7 years out and clean as of last mamo

honestly do not understand the rush to mastectomies as it is a bigger surgery, my BS recommended the lumpies and I am happy on that

good luck to you, suggest yoga breathing to keep your BP down for now!

    Hi Jules72,

So sorry that you are here but you will find lots of support from the women on these boards. I was 43 when I was diagnosed with DCIS last September and I also had breast implants. I had an MRI after my biopsy which did show other areas of concern but since I opted to have a mastectomy I did not have further biopsy's to determine what they were. They turned out to be nothing. I had a BL nipple sparing mastectomy in December with tissue expanders and had my exchange to implants in April. So far I am very happy with my decision. I really did not want to have radiation or take tamoxifen and since I have a strong family history of breast cancer I decided on the bilateral. You have time so gather as much information as you can before making a decision. Good luck!
