Possible recurrence
hello everyone. I went to my surgeon today for a check up 4 yrs after being diagnosed stage 1 invasive Ductal carcinoma. No lymphnode involvement. I had a lumpectomy and 21 radiation treatments and am currently on arimidex. My surgeon discovered the lymph nodes in armpit of same side as breast cancer are swollen. He asked me if I have a cat I said yes he said oh that is probably cat scratch fever. Even though he didn't ask me if the cat had scratched ( which he did not) so now I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow Morning.. Wondering if. Anyone else has had. A. Similar experience Very scared thank

I've not had the same experience, but wanted to send hugs and prayers.

thank you very much

I have not experience this but know others will chime in who have gone through similar issues. I am glad he is doing an US. Keep us posed. Also possible breast MRI as that would also capture the armpit generally? Perhaps ask about that if you've not had one done yet. -
So sorry you have to go through the worry. I know how that goes. But cat scratch fever and he didn't explain? What the heck is wrong with him?

In the time since my treatment, I have had two occasions where there was a lump in the armpit and I was sent for an ultrasound on it. The first time was an enlarged lymph node (but perfectly normal looking) they said was likely irritated from rads. Second time the ultrasound saw nothing even though everyone can feel the lump. None of the docs seem concerned in the least. Maybe scar tissue, they say. If it was something bad they would see it, they say. I guess I just have to believe them and quit worrying. Anyway, just to tell you that lumps in the armpit are not necessarily anything to get worried about. I know how stressful it is waiting for these tests. Nothing much anyone can say to you to help that. But truly, chances are it's nothing. Hang in there.

I would say an ultrasound would be the minimum. But I'd think a fine needle biopsy would be appropriate

Francis - hope things went k. My SIL had something similar happen twice and a friend and it was scar tissue.

I am going to side with rleepac (Bekah) here. If there is anything even remotely suspicious, ask for a biopsy. I had a clear ultrasound and MRI, yet I insisted they biopsy my "scar tissue" lump I felt. Good thing. It was a recurrence...in 2 spots. I am not saying this to scare you. I am saying it so you have a definitive answer, which is hopefully all benign.
