A month in a half ago I found what feels like half a grain of rice near the surface of my skin just outside my areola. I can push the skin down and move the skin back and forth over it. It does not hurt at all. I've had two periods and no change. The ob said ummm I think it's a skin thing. So I saw the dermatologist and she said no it's below the dermal layer. She sent me to the specialist. I had a mammogram in November for a different spot the worried the ob in a different breast. Results were markedly dense and nodular with no definitive signs of cancer.

Because of this the surgeon just wanted an ultrasound. It showed a very tiny white speck and the technician mentioned it shadowing... the surgeon said he thinks it's a calcium deposit and scheduled a biopsy for June 17th.

I've been on Google though I shouldn't. Lol. From what I read about breasts and calcium I find calcification and that is not a palpable mass. I met a survivor at age 34 this weekend in a waiting room. She said she found a 1cm mass near the surface, they said calcium deposit don't worry and it turned out to be aggressive breast cancer.

Any feedback on a palpable calcium deposit in the breast?

Nervous and waiting.

    Hi Mrsraymond-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We hope you find it to be an informative and supportive place!

We know it's hard not to worry, but try to keep in mind that at your age, the odds of this being anything but a benign condition, like the calcium deposit the surgeon suspects it is. Every woman is different, and while there are the rare instances of women in their early 30's (and even younger) being diagnosed with breast cancer, and while calcifications in some women may not be palpable, that is not a guarantee for all women with the same or similar symptoms. It's good that the doctor has requested a biopsy, and that is pretty standard practice for any mass that isn't completely identifiable with other testing, but you shouldn't take that as any indication that you're going to get bad news. The odds are still very much in your favor!

Please keep us posted on how your biopsy goes, we'll be thinking of you!
