She started having off and on pain on both sides of her lower back for about 10 months. Few weeks at a time and only on one random side at a time. Over time it intensified and became more frequent. The onc at Stanford kept on reassuring that its nothing. Well, that did not turn out to be the case. She did not have dull ache. She had pain like extreme cramp which hurt badly with movement.

Here's the latest on the CD47 trials at Stanford. This video here was presented and recorded January 25-27, 2016 during the Precision Medicine conference. Dr. Irv Weissman discusses CD47, stem cells, including the late 1990's metastatic breast cancer trial and how 33% of the Stage IV patients are still alive 20 years later.

The most interesting take away from the video is that they plan on combining Anti-CD47 with purified stem cells (similar to the technique used in the late 90's breast cancer trial).

The video is 25 minutes but the CD47 discussion starts around the ~9:30 minute mark.

Great video! Game changing therapy. I can't emphasize enough the potential of this approach and the importance of Immunotherapies.

JS. Thank you. The immunotherapy drug that they had in 1990 for MBC is for Her2+ patients, correct? Or I guess not but if they had something that they tested in a clinical trial beginning in 1990 then why the long wait?

Learnt about a great new drug that is actually FDA approved. It is called CDK-4/6 (Lbrance). Anyone heard about it ?

LMWL, It is spelled Ibrance with an I, you can do a search on it on BCO there are some threads which discuss it. Several people here are on the drug (I think it is usually given with femara), it has worked for some and not for others - just like everything else.

Thanks. The thread said that it didn't work for some as a second line of treatment. So hoping this will work better as a fist line of treatment.

Fascinating stuff, Heidihill. And glad to see it's coming out of a European university. That gives me hope that researchers elsewhere -- not just Stanford -- are looking at the potential of CD47.
