Calcium level question...

My mom was diagnosed 4 years ago with BC, had double mastectomy, chemo, and is now on some hormonal meds because her cancer is ER+. A couple years ago, her calcium levels were high (10.6) , she received a full body scan, showed nothing in the bones thank God! Well, last week her blood tests showed calcium levels high again but this time they were 10.9. Her scan is scheduled for Tuesday. I'm looking if anyone has had any high calcium levels before and it NOT be bone mets? What else could it possibly be? I'm trying to remain optomistic but it's hard. Any info would be helpful

I had high calcium levels long before I had BC.  Her doctor may want to check the thyroid and parathyroid glands.  The parathyroid glands help regulate calcium levels in the blood.  If they don't have answers, ask for a referral to an endocrinologist who is knowledgeable about parathyroid glands.

I had three parathyroid glands removed about 2 yrs ago.  High blood calcium is almost ALWAYS an indication of a benign tumor of the parathyroid called an adenoma.

6 years prior to having breast cancer, I had parathyroid surgery due to one of my glands not functioning correctly. They need to check her parathyroid hormone levels.

AI = Aromatase Inhibitors.

I had high calcium levels (11.3) and it was due to taking a supplement that contained calcium they told me. My parathyroid levels were normal and I had DCIS therefore no chance of bone mets (unless they missed something) but sometimes it can be something simple. I stopped taking too much calcium and my levels went back to 9.8.

Thank you for the responses! Glad to know there is other reasons for the high calcium than just bone mets.
