Misdiagnosis for over a year?

In January of 2014, I noticed that my left breast was suddenly larger than my right breast. I haven't had any other symptoms until recently. In early 2014, I went to two different breast specialists who assured me I did not have IBC. I had an ultrasound done and was told that I was just having hormonal changes and that I have fibrocystic breasts/fibroadenomas.

Recently, I've noticed some peau d'orange/skin thickening on the left breast. Other than this, I haven't had any symptoms for the past year and a half.

Is it possible to be misdiagnosed for this length of time? I am extremely worried and went to my primary care physician. I have been referred for another ultrasound/mammogram. However, I can't think of anything else this could be and am very concerned.

I there,  I think you're smart to question and would encourage you to perhaps ask your doctor or OBGYN to order an MRI. Seems if they did US and Mammo, this would be a next step. I know some BC do present as orange peel look on the breast so I would definitely follow up. I know others with similar cancer will be along soon to offer input. Good luck and keep us posted.
