Hi ladies! Those that are past surgery, is a recliner really necessary? I checked some out today and found an awesome one that is soo comfy. I just want to make sure it is worth the money. Thanks for any input!

hi maxdog!  I was SO glad we got a new recliner with the power button (versus the arm lever).

We still use it so it was a good investment.  Best wishes!  ♥

There was a recliner discussion recently on the boards you might find helpful:

I had a BMX without recon. I did well without. Actually we had one in the TV room/man cave that I never go in. But I'm not one to sit still for long. I took a long walk(about 4miles the next day). What was hard was the limited use of my arms. For me, a recliner wasn't necessary. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery.

I slept in my recliner for about three weeks post Mx and again post exchange. I found it to be very useful

    max,

Yup, you need it. I was unable to lift or even use my arms for weeks post bmx. Sleeping on the bed was out of the question. Get a chair or rent a hospital bed. You will be glad you did. I slept in the recliner for 2 weeks. Best wishes

I really like sleeping in a recliner after any type of surgery. Along with the physical comfort, you also can't accidentally roll over the wrong way when you are unconsicous, which helped me mentally relax and sleep better.

I am finding (3 days post unilateral mx) that my sleep number bed with a memory foam top and adjustable base is where I am most comfortable. I can let air out or add as necessary for comfort and use the base to adjust my position. It is awesome

Three plus years out from surgery and I find myself taking naps in my recliner.  I bought one for recovery and found it very necessary early in recovery. We eventually moved it into an empty bedroom, which became my TV room and nap room.  I find myself there on those sleepless nights and I almost always fall asleep in the recliner.  When my adult son came home for a few days to recover from shoulder surgery, he used it to sleep and relax in. It was perfect for him too.  He was able to sleep without being afraid that he would roll onto his sore side.  Mine was a great investment!  I highly recommend one.

I was careful to select a model that had an easy lever on my non-cancer side.  I tested each one that we looked at to be sure I could operate it after a BMX with immediate reconstruction.

I had bmx june 12. We got an electric recliner from a relative who doesnt use it anymore. I am very pleased to have it. Getting up out of bed would be extremely painful right now and the handle on our lazyboy is just to much for me to move You can rent or buy one. Highly recommend
