Biopsy last week, results?

Quick background: I'm 23, felt a lump in left breast beginning of April, went to OBGYN in the beginning of May who referred me to ultrasound. Radiologist then referred me to general surgeon who wanted a biopsy. All this back and forth took a few weeks, but it's fine. I really wasn't concerned. I'm young, healthy and have no history of breast cancer in my family. It's probably a fibroadenoma. I work as a vet tech, so I'm well aware of how many lumps we see that turn out benign.

Anyway, the biopsy was done Weds 6-3, the results were supposed to be ready in 2-3 days and I would receive a call. Haven't heard anything from anybody so today I called the surgery center and the receptionist said that I needed an appointment. Unfortunately my surgeon's only in the office 2 days a week and next week I'm going out of town, so the soonest we can coordinate is...June 24th. That seemed a bit crazy to me, so I called my OBGYN thinking maybe he had rec'd a copy of the results. No dice, he doesn't have them.

So, my question, is there any way for me to get the results sooner than 2 weeks from now? The surgery center refuses to tell me over the phone (also can't tell if that's policy or it's bad news). Surely I can request a copy of my medical record from somebody?

Like I said, I'm fairly healthy, I haven't been to the doctor in years and I live on the other side of the country from my family so nobody is around to help me navigate this mess. Does anybody have any ideas?

    Johnske01-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We hope you find the answers you're looking for!

Can you ask your doctor to call the surgeon's office and request the report? You are certainly entitled to copies of your medical records, but considering the hoops you'll likely have to jump through to get them (copy fees, release forms, etc), it's unlikely that you'd receive them before the appointment you already have scheduled. Does the surgery center have PA's who can deliver biopsy reports, in the absence of the surgeon? We would suggest first trying to see if a records request from your OBGYN would work, that seems like it might be the quickest option at this point.

The center probably has this as a blanket policy, and this isn't indicative of what the results say, so we wouldn't worry too much at this point. We know it's frustrating to have to wait even longer, but as you said, you're young and in good health, and at your age and with no history of breast cancer, the odds of the lump being anything but benign are very, very small.

We hope you're able to get this sorted out soon!

Thank you for your prompt response!

I don't have a primary care doctor, and the only medical thing I have had in the last 5 years was with the OBGYN about a month ago that started this. I can certainly call them again and see if they can get a copy of the report. Then I can try the surgery center and see if there isn't some way for me to find out what the results are. I'm fairly certain this is benign and the sooner I know for sure, the sooner I can move on.

Ok, I have a plan for tomorrow. Thank you again.
